I have a 96 PGT and I want a test pipe to go with my Borla. I ordered one from Jeff, and he said he's not sure how my car will act. Some people don't get them because they have OBDII, but I know a kid with a 96 and he never mentioned any problems. Just wondering if there will be any negative effects, such as CEL light coming on or anything. Will I need another O2 sensor welded on or anything? Thanks.

I believe there is an O2 sensor in the cat on 96-97 cars. Someone said you might be able to drill a hole in the test pipe and make it work but I don't know about that. You WILL get a CEL if you pull out that O2 sensor.

I have a 96 pgt built in July of 96. The 96 does not have an additional O2 sensor in the cat. It is located on the downpipe of the headers. If the test pipe is the same length as the 93-96 cat, then it will fit. Only the 97 has issues.

BTW, test pipe for 4 years now and I still pass emissions!!!!!

97's do have one in the cat.

yes.. 96 models were the only models different from the rest of the 2nd gen probes. This was a change inplamented for OBDII and later Ford engineers moved the sensors before and after cat in the 97 PGT like that of the 93 thru 95.

Thank you ... good fella's

I wasn't sure if it would work and didn't want to tell him it would just to make a sale.

I appreciate all the info...(even though this isn't my post) I (we) feel better now.

Well, I have a test pipe on my 96 PGT with a Borla Catback. Geezus, I love it. Sounds like a damn Indy car at around 45k rpm. Wouldn't change a thing.

Oh yeah, I had no problems with the install. Took me 15 min.

Ok, this bring up a question in my mind. Would that just any aftermarket cat will not fit on my car if I have a '97? I'd have to buy one specifically designed for a '97?
Wow, I'm glad I read this before I ordered one....

Anybody have any info on Cat's for a '96-'97? If the cats on a '96-'97 have O2 sensors, then what about any aftermarket cat's?
