Ok guys... here's the deal...
I did a search on the old board for "ACT" i think and I'm on the slowest connection in the world... after waiting several minutes for the page to pop up, it pulled up all kinds of useless topics and none that helped.. i dunno, i think the search function pulled up all the damn posts where ACT was listed in someone's sig...
this isn't about doing work for me.. damn, it's about helping a fellow prober out.. geez... thanks and i'm out.

Jeff, I got my heavy duty pressure plate and disc from Greg on the bulk buy. He might still have some left over for $295 or something. Otherwise, the best alternative that I found when I was looking was CB Performance in California. I talked to Benson who said it would be around $305 for pressure plate, disc, and the 2 bearings. They have a website which I can't remember. If you can find their number they will probably have the best deal:smile:

You can use a stock disc and use an ACT pressure plate, it's been done. The pressure plate is only $150 or so and will allow you to have as grabby a clutch as the WHOLE act ii clutch kit. I'm going to do that soon, hehe.

Wrong.
The stock Mazda Clutch Disc was constructed to be asbestos free. That means that it cannot deal with heat very well unfortunately. That, combined with the weak pp makes for a slippy clutch.
Jeff, Get the whole ACT kit and you'll be happy. Here are some threads involving prices and places that you can get the ACT:

And here are the part numbers you'll need:

Wrong.
I read on a Mazda performance parts site a few weeks ago (where they sell mazda parts for all mazdas, forgot the address) you CAN use a stock disc (i'd get a new one anyway) and use the ACT pressure plate, the plate is a lil stronger, yea, but nothing a stock disc can't handle. I don't think they'd be advertising it at this site if it DIDNT work. They sell the parts seperate at carparts.com and any place really. Just a $$ saving idea, since that was what the topic was about.

Of course you can use the stock disc.
That would be foolish to say you couldn't.
You can use a 4 puck disc with the stock PP if cheapest clutch with acceptable to mediocre grip is your goal. But I was assuming he wanted a durable and great gripping clutch.
It's not that the Pressure Plate will damage the stock disc. The stock disc cannot handle heat no matter what pressure plate is connected to it due to the lack of asbestos like all other good gripping friction materials are [clutches, brake pads]. It is a good idea to replace it one that is more heat resistant.
The site you mention also sells Centreforce Dual Friction clutches. You think those are for high output K series engines too? They just sell some aftermarket stuff for this application as well as stock parts.
The reason ACT sells separate parts is because perhaps you want a 4 puck disc with a street plate, like many people here run. Or maybe you want a 3200# pressure plate but a full faced disc for gentle engagement [like Nenni was/is running].
I have a ACT 1600# pressure plate and their Organic Street disc [commonly referred to as an ACT Stage 2 here]. It grips great. It should have been stock. Pedal pressure isnt too hard and it is very streetable as far as 1st gear starting slip while super hard when need be. Take it for what it's worth.
