I found out that the jet engines on a Black Bird (super sonic jet goes about 3x the speed of sound) worked kind of like the VAF on our cars.

The jet engine has a cone in front of it that adjusts with the speed but it works in reverse. At higher speeds it puts the cone restricting the amount of air flow though the engine but that also increases the speed of the air going through.

Maybe the VAF is not a bad thing after all??

If i remeber correctly someone was talking about using smaller piping for a CAI and that should increase the speed of air, thus more power. Maybe i'll try this.

200-300fps is hardly super sonic. That cone @ super sonic speeds on the J-58 P&W slows the air down. Fluids go nuts above sonic speeds.

i would imagine at lower rpm's, the cone would help by increasing intake air speeds. but at high rpm's, it would probably be a huge restriction.

Definatly Efini... That would definatly just be in the way at high speeds.

Interesting however.

the neat lil cone is a dyno proven 10hp loss on the dyno!!! how neat!!!
