MTX Shifter Knob

Hey guys, I'm in the process of fixing up my 94 Probe GT all nice and clean again and want to replace some worn out parts to make her look closer to new again, and one thing I wanted to replace is the factory 5 speed shift knob. I like it and don't want to change to something else, but mine is getting worn out.

So my question is, does anyone know where I can get an exact replacement, or maybe even get it repaired? I'm pretty sure Ford doesn't sell it anymore, and they would be to $$$ anyway, however I see that Mazda still sells theirs for the 94 MX-6. Does anyone know if they are the same?

Any info would be appreciated

Jason

Find a junkyard That's where I got mine, when I bought it I didn't even have a shifter knob I had to put on an aftermarket one that kept coming off.

They aren't hard to remove they twist on, and are lighter typically than the ricer knobs.

Yes this is the same shift knob for a Mx-6 LS '93-97.

Yeah, Mazda should still sell ones for the MX-6/626. If not, almost any shift knob from the newer Mazdas should fit as well.

also if you pull of the leather then you will just have a knob that says 1-5/R on it and i dunno I sorta of like mine... its abit smaller, and well its rubber so has more grip. I find atleast.

Yeah, I've tried a few local junkyards, but it's hard to find any probes in them at all. Or heck, even MX-6 626 are hard to find in those years. I think my local junk yards are just too small

Thanks for the input guys.

You can pull off the leather and it will be like an SE knob, it will still have the shift pattern on it underneath.

yeah, pulling off the leather sounds like it will do good for you.

or you could go out and buy yourself a civic short throw shifter from ebay, and the factory '98-'02 shift knob from an accord. (both found on ebay)

it looks like this
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/pau...-sm4-003zb.jpg
and it threads right onto the civic short throw, and possibly threads onto the stock shifter also.

you will hit two birds with one stone, because you will also be getting rid of those worn out shifter bushings that make your shifter feel all sloppy, and replacing them with bearings that the civic short throw has.

Actually, I already replaced the bushings, so it's much better now, lol.

Also, as a clarification, is the same year MX6/626 shifter exactly the same (looks wise, I understand the threads are the same)? I want one that looks/is exactly the same .
