Trans Gone, Options?

So, as far as we can tell it sounds as if the final drive gear is shot. You can hear, what we think are, the orbital gears rattiling in there. What are my options? Whole new transmission?

Take off that outer casing take out the broken parts and stay out of fifth gear. I dont even know if that would work but I am just throwing something out there.

FOLLOW-UP:
The problem was NOT the transmission at all. Upon further inspection I shattered the passenger side CV half-shaft! It came out and fell into several pieces of mangled metal.
