  • They're not THAT fast Ant. I also have a boost controller + chipped ECU running somewhere between 12 - 15 psi.

I'm not saying that he wouldn't beat me...but it'd definitely be a far closer race than you'd think. From what I've seen, most of those R/T's are running between 14.5-14.8 stock, depending on the driver. It's not unreasonable for a 1G running more than double the stock boost to fall into that range.

            • HAHAHAHA, you funny Chris! I'm sure you'd crush me with double the boost level! It'd only be remotely fair if you stayed at stock boost.

Now, the 90GT I had, on the other hand....That would've been a different story. Nothin like hitting 25 psi on the stock turbo on the highway! Boost creep? What boost creep?! That thing was a friggin tank...Now THAT would've given the R/T a run for its money!

                • Those limit boost in 1st and 2nd as to reduce torque steer, right Ant? Once you start doing breathing mods to boosted (turbocharged) cars you do have to watch out for boost creep...just FYI.

                    • Simply put the exhaust gasses can't leave the turbo fast enough out of the wastegate which allows the turbo to then build more boost.

You shouldn't get much with just an intake but the very first things you'll want to do is full exhaust including a larger diameter downpipe. This will allow the exhaust to leave the turbo faster by creating less back pressure. Once the boost gets high enough you will need an external wastegate on the manifold which will dump the exhaust before it reaches the turbo opposed to within it.

This pretty much explains it in a nutshell. Because exhaust is exiting more quickly due to less backpressure, the turbo will continue to spool, even if the wastegate is open. The exhaust will take the path of least resistance, and even though some will be diverted around the turbo via the wastegate, a large majority will still travel through the turbo, which will cause it to continue to spool.

Some people get around this by porting their wastegate (depends on whether you have an internal or external wastegate), which works in some applications...Others get different plumbing and run a larger external wastegate with a good, solid EBC to eliminate the problem (the route I took). It can get expensive though...

                        • I may only ever get the turbo to spool about 20 psi. But Cobb DP and Corksport 80mm exhaust are on the list with the addition of the AccessPort. Basic breathing mods. Definite suspension mods. It's too... soft.
