                • Sold the car to Jose yesterday. Developed a miss half-way down. Drove it the whole rest of the way like that. What a bitter-sweet ending. I'm so angry with that car. I'm so angry that I spent $130 on plugs and wires only to find out that wasn't the issue. I'm just so ****ing angry with it.

                  • Ant, your disty was starting to fail, guaranteed. Well, at least you got it off your hands and made a few bucks, right? And I'm sure Jose knows that the car's going to need some TLC...

                    • If that's the case, why only on cylinder #5?

                      • Because the KL distributor tends to fail in odd, inexplicable ways. I am going go give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you already tried replacing the disty cap and rotor, correct? Bc you could have had a bad contact inside the disty cap for cylinder 5.

I remember a couple years ago when Jeremy's disty failed in his wagon it started running like ass on the way back from dinner, then we turned onto Ryan's road and boom...dead. When it went bad on my 2nd gen (many many moons ago) I was having misfiring/hard starting issues that I couldn't resolve. New plugs, wires, disty cap, rotor, etc...Ended up being the disty.

                        • I included a new (used) one I had. Had I more time I would have done that. I replaced the cap. Rotors are a pain to pull off, and I had no tools.

                          • The rotor inside the disty? It pulls right off dude. It just pulls off and the new one presses on, at least in the several that I have done. Sometimes just gotta jiggle it a little to get it free.

That's cool that you included a used disty with the purchase...If I were him, I'd swap that out to see if the symptoms persist.

                            • Funny thing is - It started right up 1st time and ran on all 6 cyl's the morning after. It'd probably do the same now if you started it. It's only after some time that it develops the miss.

                              • Yep, that's exactly how mine started failing years ago. This is, of course, before it developed a full miss and started giving me problems starting...
