    Hello i am a first time probe owner

    I recently baught a 93 ford probe gt auto transmission and it only goes up to 100mph a,nd my rev limit is 5500rpm . any ideas or links.to other threads like this thank you .

    I dont know about the 100mph hour but I'm sure your tach is just slow. It is a common problem with 93pgt's. I have a 93 PGT 5 speed and my rev limit was also 5500rpms. I tried everything to fix it to include switching ECU's. It turned out the tach was just slow and incorrect. Get an aftermarket Tach and hook it directly to the distributor and that will give you an accurate reading. If you hook your aftermarket tach to the ECU than you may still get an inaccurate reading. I hope this helps.

      If it is only the tach reading, then he should be able to hit 140mph still. I don't know specifically what causes this limp mode, i'm sure someone else here knows. I suggest checking the usual suspects. Coolant level, timing, plugs, tps, cps, distributor, fuel pressure, oil in the spark plug wells.

        While I can't tell you why, my 97 won't go over 100 either. I do have a CEL due to excessive torque converter slip, I always thought that was why it did it.

          When I had my atx I was able to get it all the way to 7k and I maxed out 4th gear at 240km per hour on a 94 mx6 v6

            doesn't the ect sensor limit to 5500 rpm when it see the engine is not warm yet?

            other then that, do a 5spd swap.

              I might check the crank position sensor when i baught the car it did and still has a ignition module

                My old auto topped out around 115-120 per the speedo. Never actually had it verified with a gps.

                      Jeez, no wonder my Escort was beating those probes back in the day, lol.

                        yes a faulty ECTS limits the rpm to 5500 all the time which is also limiting his top speed.

                          JDM cars have a speed limiter built in, just in case someone has swapped out the ECU
                          Contrary to popular opinion, I do have mechanical sympathy, I always feel sorry for the cars I drive.
