Performance Parts Install Archive

Unorthodox UDP


Tools Needed


1. Jack Stand
2. 3/8 Socket Wrench
3. 14mm wrench and socket
4. 10mm wrench and socket
5. 13/16 socket
6. 12mm socket

Belts Needed

Alternator & Water Pump

1993-97 Gates K040355

Power Steering & Air Conditioning

1993-97 Gates K050450

Procedure

1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front passenger wide wheel.
2. Raise passenger side front of vehicle and secure with a jack/safety stand.
3. Remove passenger side front wheel and remove the splash guard (10mm and phillips screwdriver)
4. Remove accessory belts by loosening the 14mm hold down bolt on the bottom of the alternator (faces driverside) ... then the 12mm holding
the tensioner to the adjustment bracket, then back the 12mm adjustment bolt out.

5. Next loosen the power steering pump pulley tensioner located at the front of the power steering system, there is a 17mm peg pointing towards the passenger side that must be loosend first.
Note: Make sure the tensioner bolts are the last loosened, and the first tightened
6. Next loosen the crank pulley bolt by placing 1/2 drive with 13/16 socket on the drive shaft in the loosen position.
Then get into car and bump the starter by turning the engine fast enough for the engine to bump but not start. This will loosen the crank pulley bolt
with ease instead of having to get a breaker bar to remove the bolt.
7. Now remove the stock crank pulley.

Now you are ready to install the Unorthodox Underdrive Pulley


8. Check the timing cover to make sure the new pulley does not get in the way of it.
9. Install the new pulley; lubricate the inner bore with anti-seize compound and tighten crank pulley bolt hand tight (Do not torque yet)
Do not force the pulley onto the crankshaft, because damage will void the warranty.
10. Install accessory belts ( K040355 and K050450)
11. Tighten belts w/ the tensioners
12. Once Alt. belt is tightened, tighten the bolts on the alienator pulley.
13. Reinstall remaining components in reverse order.


You man not feel a gain in HP right away as the computer needs to recalibrate because of the engine lighter rotational weight.

AFPR Installation on a 2.0L

NOTE:
This installation write-up is for use if you are installting the AFPR with it mounted ontop of the drivers side transmission mount.

1: Before cutting any of your hoses go out and buy Scotch Filament boxing tape. Reason for using this kind is unlike electrical tape, this tape will not streatch. Also it is not as easily punctured by the metal braid of the stainless braided lines. When you have measured off how long of hose you need just rap the filament tape around the hose where you plan to cut. This makes the cut clean. Makes it much easier to get the hose end on also if you use a little motor oil to lube up the tape.
2: This writeup is based on the use of a 90 degree fitting (Summit Part Number: EAR-849091ERL) for use to attach to the fuel rail where the stock banjo bolt was.
4: All lengths are exagerated by as much as 1.5" to allow for error in cutting and to make sure there are no hard turns which might crimp the hose (which is not too possible with SS braided hoses.


Cutting Hose To Length
(1) Hose from Fuel Filter to 90 degee fitting on fuel rail = 30 inches

(2) Hose that runs from Pressure Regulator Inlet to Fuel Rail Adapter Fitting = 12 inches

(3) Hose that runs from the AFPR Outlet Port to stock return hard line = 10 inches

Assembly/Dissasembly

1: Start car and remove fuel pump relay from the under hood fuse box while its running. (Pictured Below) This will cuase there to be no pressure in the lines. However there will still be fuel in the lines so be concious that you will have to prevent fuel from getting on things.

2: Remove stock FPR (2) 10mm Bolts, replace it with the MBX fuel rail adapter.

3: Remove the stock banjo bolt, and remove the entire hardline that leads up to it. (Pictured Below) This is where the 90 defree hose end will bolt to. The hose that attaches here comes from the fuel filter. This is the 30 inch hose. One end of the hose has the 90 fitting and the other uses a hose clamp to attach it to the top of the fuel filter.

4: Mount the Aermotive AFPR to the top of the drivers side tranny mount. There is a hole on the top. I used a 10mm bolt to affix it to the mouont. Make sure the pressure adjustment bolt is faceing the front of the car and the AFPR outlet is facing the firewall. Also make sure to have installed the Boss plug in the left side inlet port (facing the drivers side) and installed the-6AN Port O-Ringed Port Adapters into the right side inlet and bottom side outlet.

5: Next you will assemble the hose for the fuel rail adapter to AFPR run. Each end will use -6AN straight hose ends.

6. Now attach the metric to -6AN fitting to the MBX fuel rail adapter (Pictured Below) and attach the other end of the hose to the -6AN inlet fitting on the AFPR

7. Now assemble the return line hose. On one end you will have a -6AN straight hose end and on the other you will have a hose clamp to attach the hose to the stock hard return line.


Disclaimer: I will not be held liable for any mess ups you may cuase when you are installting your AFPR kit. This setup worked on my application becuase of how I have things routed. May not work on everyones.

Installing Lowering Springs

Tools Needed

1. Sockets: 12, 14, 17 (Be sure to use an impact socket), 21, 22mm, 3/4, 15/16
2. 3ft breaker bar
3. Jacks, stands
4. 17mm box wrench
5. 1 can rust eater
6. Flat head screwdriver
7. Spring compressor from AutoZone (Rentable)

Procedure

FRONT

Step 1: Remove the clip holding the brake line to the strut. Remove the (2) 17mm from the strut bracket. Use 17mm box wrench to keep the nut on the opposite side from spinning. (Note: Vehicles with ABS must remove the 12mm bolt to remove the wire harness for the sensor before removing the 17mm hub bolts)

Step 2: Pop off the plastic cover on the strut tower and loosen the 13/16 nut in the center ( do not fully loosen, just enough to break it loose). Then loosen the 4 nuts (14mm) on top of the strut tower. Be sure to hold onto it with one hand or have an assistant grab it or it will fall right out.

Step 3: Place any object under the control arm to prevent a bind being put on the CV shaft.

Take a good look at the strut because you have to put this back together again.

Step 4: Use the spring compressor to compress the spring then remove the 13/16 nut from the strut shaft.

Make sure you have all of these pieces once the strut and spring are separate.
1. Spring Hat
2. Strut Mount
3. Strut Mount Bearing
4. Spring
5. Dust Boot
6. Bump stop

Step 5: Remove bump stop from strut. Cut to specs for spring used. then put back on strut.

Step 6: Put the spring on the strut. The end that has the flat side is the top. Make sure the bottom of the spring rests in the strut. Reassemble the strut. The spring hat (metal disk) goes on top of the spring (it goes on a certain way just guess and check), then press the strut mount bearing inside the center hole of the disc (See Picture Below), the strut mount goes on top. Now compress the spring down with the spring compressor and fully tighten the 13/16 nut to the strut shaft. Once its tight you can release the spring compressor.

Repeat for the other side.

Rear

Step 1: Remove trunk interior panels
Step 2: Loosen 13/16 nut from strut shaft (do not completely remove)

REPEAT ALL STEPS AS WITH FRONT STRUT ASSEMBLIES FOR REAR ASSEMBLIES

Repeat all previous steps for reinstall (Note: Start all bolts threaded by hand before using a socket wrench or air impact to tighten so you do not cross thread them)
