Question MOPOC's 2 Wheeled Riders

I have a few questions for you bike riding members....

*I found a 2002 Ninja ZX6R in KC this weekend, 2000 miles, D&D exhaust, has been knocked over I am assuming (little scratches in the side), for $5500. Is this a good buy?

*Bank Loans On Bikes---What do they look at on the bike to determine it's value? How long would they loan for on a 2002 Ninja?

*When is the best time of the year to be buying a bike? I know If I bought this, It'd probaly jsut sit until nice weather returned....

thoughts, answers, opinions? post em up!

Really depends. Insurance isnt that high depending on your record and who you go through.

I know people paying 15 a month for full insurance on a 600 sportbike. They are 25 and married which carries some deductions, but just be careful on your insurance shopping.

ZX6R being a 636cc bike will screw you for one of the loopholes we have found around here. We've noticed that if you register a 600 cc as the 599cc it really is, they dont consider it a true sportbike anymore works for some anyway.

I'd buy it now or middle of winter, just makes sense to me. People are willing to let them go for cheaper. Don't know about insurance, I have to get mine this week. 17 year old, 3 speeding tickets, and a 600cc.

Alright, another thing I have to consider besides insurance, is secrecy. If I want to stay living at home, they can't know I own a bike (Dad's rules). I could probaly keep this @ Matt's house...

Another question is: Do you think I should just wait and purchase something like a $1500-$2000 bike? I like this 02 Zx6r though...

inque will tell you to go buy a 600 or even maybe a 1300. Because he's an old pro and he has an amazing learning curve. But not everyone is like this. I would start out with a cheap bike something you can drop and lay down and not kill yourself. Becasue when you do this and you will do thisif not one both. IF you drop a $1500 bike your like shit thats suck you drop a bike that cost you 6,000 your and your makeing payments on your like **** **** **** **** i have to pay for this shit still and also 600cc bike is fast stuff its know R1 or anything but it can move and can kill your ass fast i started small learned and now im getting a bigger bike start out with a 500 its fast can keep up with the 600 till about 125 and handles amazing dont buy a 250 its not fun unless your going to go pick up your grandma for a wild date to the flower shop and then mybe the park. if i was you i would buy something cheap. ride save money and learn sell and buy something bigger later

I wouldn't spend any more then $2000 on your first bike. Like Jeremiah said, you'll be pissed if you drop a bike you spent 5000 dollars on. Not to mention you still have to buy gear, insurance and register it.

Don't let miah fool you into thinking a 600 is some crazy fast bike. If I can do it, so can you.

Hmmm...That's a bummer. I was thinking maybe $150/month...but I should check into that, especially on a $6000 bike...I'd need full coverage. I need to see if my mom would stick it on her insurance!

So you'd pass on this 02 ZX6r? I really liked the looks of it, so If I wanted 600cc still, and similar looks...but for $2000$2500-ish? What should i look for? I'd like to stay fairly new?

*What should I expect to spend for riding gear?
Thanks Guys/Gals!

First. Holyshit. Jermiah, whats your record like? Your being assraped. I have a 600, registered AS a 600 "Supersport" bike, and I can get insurance, full coverage for 65 a month.

Please note, im 21, not married, good driving record.

Second. Jake? My suggestion is, TAKE THE RIDING SCHOOL FIRST. Judge yourself by that, a ZX6R for 5000 if its in good shape is a steal, definately worth the $$. It all comes down to your skill man, only way you'll tell that is by the school (Which I STRONGLY suggest, as will katherself. VERY MUCH WORTH THE MONEY).

I went from that school to a 04 GSXR 600. Iv only been down once... and that was as a result of sand, dirt, gravel and no knowledge of the area. Im going to be racing trackdays next season, and I can keep up with several of the "Fast" people in the area (Lets not get confused, by fast, i mean track type fast, not how fast your bike will go in a straight line).

So it all depends on you. I know TONS of people who have started on a 600. I know several of them who have yet to wreck, then again, they dont ride like I do.

Things to consider:

How are you going to be riding? Do you want to get fast in the twisties? Cruise? Straight line highway race (ghey)?

How comfortable were you during your school? How much control did you feel you had over the bike?

And finally. Dont decide not to buy the bike because your afraid you'll drop it. If someone thinks they have enough riding skill, or are good enough NOT to drop a bike, they are ignorant idiots. Everyone goes down, everyone wrecks... unless you cruise around, only on gorgeous days, doing the speed limit or less, taking turns like a pussy

Oh, and another thing on the insurance post.

If its 599 cc or lower, your insurance should be VERY low. I know a chick riding a F4i paying 15 a month. She is married, and over 25, but has 2 claims on her record.

Insurance company quoted me around 65 a month for a 1000cc bike after i turn 25. Around 25 a month for my 600 after I turn 25.

Alright lets see:

*I am not afraid of laying the bike down. I will kick myself in the butt, but I am sure it will happen...so wrecking isnt a fear. I'd be more scared of the 'rents finding out I own a bike then bootting me outta the house. :blue_wink

*What kind of riding would I do? Hmmm.... Never thought alot about that. Lots of windy roads around the lake area, so twisties sound decent....but it would mostly be for cruising around (not always slow).

*I do know I want atleast a 600cc....That way I avoid wanting another bike further down the road (faster than I want). a litre bike would come in the years to come.

*?= Are there any classes during late fall/winter months? If not, maybe Matt (CustomGT) can teach me some basics before I can get to a class? I have never ridden my whole life (street nor dirt bike).

*I only like hearing $150 month insurance. haha. $300/month on the VW is enough as is.

---Note: 95 Probe GT is being fixed and sold which will leave me some more bike $$, so I may pass on THAT zx6r that I called and left you the message about (did ya check into it?). But leaves extra for another bike...:-)

Matt,Coty,Jerimiah, Jason,Kat,other M2WR----- What else should I look into, research, etc?

Other Questions-

*How does things like Yamaha's $39 month payment, financing work? That seems unbelieveable for a new bike?

*What are some sites/forums I should check into? I ahve been a SportBikes.Net member for quite awhile now but ahvent really posted, or read much.

*THe best places for parts/deals? Jason..I know you know a guy with good hook ups from what I remember you saying at the Shawnee meet (copper?)...what other places are there?

KC HAM--WHere are you? What has your research brought up? :-)

$200 for the class, and they have a class open the weekend of the 13th, 14th? (Sat. Sun) of this month? Am I reading that correctly? If so....I am in KC that weekend!

Hey K- How do you reserve a class and find out more info about it? Can you tell me what you remember (time in, time out, total time there, what I learn, etc)?

How is $200 for this class, compared to other classes? My mom paid $20 for the class she took....... there has got to be a difference...right?
