Unhappy My Probe burnt last night

Here is my probe that I'v spent all my money time and effort on. Last night around 11:15pm my car caught flame in the engine bay. It had been parked sense 8:30pm. I heard something popping and banging that sounded like thunder, I thought it was just starting to rain out side. Then around 12:30 my brother comes running into my room telling me my car is on fire. We ran outside moving his car away from mine and called the police, By the time the fire department got to my house the flames had spread to the back of my car and inside. You can see by the pictures the only things that may be worth keeping is my battery because it was unharmed in the trunk, my rims, and my drilled and slotted rotors. My insurance company is not doing anything about it because I did not have full coverage. I really don't know what to do because I just lost my job about 2 weeks ago and I have no money. I took some pictures a couple days ago. and some last night after it burnt and this morning. I have no idea what could have started this other then a person. I just don't see where it could have been electrical. I'm selling all my probe parts and battery. I need the money to find another car at this point, and still try to pay my bills at the same time. This was truly my baby ;(

Please don't tell me how much my car sucked and its not a loss or anything like that. There were big plans for it in the near future. And it feels like my closest friend just died.

Sorry to see that man, I feel for you my previous GT did that same thing just not as bad mine didnt get past the firewall. It almost looks like it burnt down in your driveway. I hadnt put the effort into mine that you had because it caught on fire 1 month after I bought it. Most expensive car rental Ive ever had.

Sorry man I couldn't even begin to imagine that happening. I know you have a lot of work in the car but at least replacements are fairly cheap. I hate to ask but please tell me that wire from the positive terminal is not connected to anything.

It was only connected there for a couple of mins so I could test the
HID's the first day I had bought them and installed them. I knew it would not be good to keep connected there.

Trust me, I cried like my dog best friend mom and girlfriend had just died. I wish I would have paid attention earlier that night to the banging outside instead of thinking it was thunder, I probably could have saved it.

I am going to probably make myself look stupid but was that crash on the rear prior to the fire?

I think your asking about the crack in the bumper, The second day I had the body kit on a girl that I worked with at Dominos as a delivery driver had just started driving and hit my car so it cracked and scrapped the bumper and also what got me fired. The insurance was still investigating that as well.

No -I am referring to the dent in the rear hatch unless you did that trying to get into it.

Oh, No that was done by the fire fighters trying to get into the trunk to see how the battery looked and to disconnect it. It really hurt a lot to see them bending up breaking and mangling the car even more.

Have you checked the remote battery wire routing (what is left) for signs of arcage? My first bet was going to be on the battery relocation cable because that is one of the most un-healthy things you can do to a car unless you really know what you are doing. I am working on a car that had the cable going into the grounded sheet metal battery box through a hole cut in the side with no grommett. And cables can also get pinched or can chafe through somewhere in the routing unless you properly protect and secure it. There is a lot of amperage going through those cables and it doesn't take much vibration for a sharp edge to chafe right through the insulation. And as soon as it comes in contact with the first strand -then it is all over.

But regardless of how it started -I really feel for you. Even if was a work-in-progress -there was still a lot of love that had already been invested. I would help out myself if I wasn't in such a bad spot myself at the moment.

Hope everything works out well for you!

Ya that was actually the first thing i checked this morning. There are no chaff marks or breakage in the battery cables. I had done the relocation with a friend of mine that works for a radio shop that does them all the time. The only part of the cable that is messed up is the positive that was on the starter in the engine bay that got burnt all to hell from the fire.

I swear, man, between you & westpalm,I'm beginning to think the probe has got it's own deamon now. Or our cars are getting good enough to attract jealous low life's that are too lazy to work hard for their dreams. I replaced some broken skirt pieces so far, gotta get some scrapes/dents removed yet. My exhaust is still bent in the middle from said low life's thinkin they could just stomp it loose. Jerk didn't take into account that it might be welded together. Seems likely to me that some kids were jealous. I've gotten gaggles of middle teens take one look at my ride,&"pffft! rich guys,...". I tell them I'm not rich, just workin OT & makin sacrifices to git-r-done....but nooo...I feel ya,man.
