Hi all:
I hate to be the 2 billionth guy posting about this but it seems like there are a variety of possible reasons other then coil or ignitor plus a variety of ignition set ups out there. So, I wanted to go ahead and post my issues to get a straight answer here.
Anyways, I have a 93 PGT that had been sitting for a good 2 years and I had been doing some restoration for a greater part of a year. A month or so ago, I buttoned everything up and got the car to start (after 2 years of nada! ) but had to shut it off due to a coolant leak. After fixing that, I got it start again but this time, it ran only for a few seconds before dying. I traced the problem to an unplugged VAF and disconnected throttle cable :/ . Fixed it and checked and double checked for any disconnected cables, vac hoses etc and tried again... nothing. Did the spark test and found no spark so I did the HEI mod. After double checking that all the wires are where they should be, I tried again...still no spark! I checked the primary resistance and found it to be 1.0 ohms and the secondary to be around 12.87 kilo ohms so I'm thinking the coil is good, maybe? What do you think the problem is? Is there anything else I can test for other then the coil? What else can cause the no spark situation?
The spark notes:
1) 93 PGT, hadn't run for 2 years.
2) Fired up once but had to shut off after 2 min due to coolant leak.
3) got it to start again but car died after a few seconds, found it to be due to unplugged VAF and throttle cable.
4) fixed them, checked to make sure everythings buttoned up and tried again, no start.
5) did spark test and found no spark so did HEI mod.
6) After HEI mod, still no spark.
7) Tested coil, Primary Resistance was 1.0 Ohms, Secondary was 12.87 Kilo Ohms (within spec according to Haynes.)
Questions:
1) Could it still be the coil?
2) What else could cause a no spark? What else can I test to make sure?
Btw, my only "igntion related mod" was I fabbed and installed a grounding kit that mimicked the Probe Addiction kit (used the instructions as a reference.) I noticed that now, the car would act like my key is in ON when I stuck the key in the ignition without switching it to ON. I also noticed that when it did run, the car didn't shut off until I physically pulled the key from the ignition (ie, it ran even though I turned the key to OFF.) I don't remember this being the case before when I was driving it.
Also, the Distributor is new (as in it hadn't been running for too long.) I made sure to wrap it in a plastic bag to keep away moisture when it wasn't running.
Thank guys for all the help and sorry for being a little verbose!
