Car Audio and Electronics
All posts in the Car Audio and Electronics forum have to meet PT's standard rules, but beyond those, there are a couple of extras I thought I'd throw in to make things more smooth.

1) Have Fun - This should be the one to be taken most seriously. I expect everyone in here to have fun and enjoy their stay.

2) If you have something to share then go ahead. The main LOUNGE is for just about everything non-probe related. Well this is the audio forum so if something funny happened to you while you were installing someones stereo then tell us about it - we love stories

3) We're all in this to learn something - if someone doesn't know then it's not the end of the world - simply tell him his error and help him out to the best of your ability.

4) PARTICIPATE - Don't be afraid...no one in here bites

That's it! Enjoy

UPDATE
------------------------------------------

THERE IS A FOR SALE FORUM - It was fine while there were only a few people posting things every now and then but enough is enough - I will close all for sale related posts upon sight and may delete them if grumpy or upset at the time so beware!

POST CLEAR AND PRECISE SUBJECTS IN NEW POSTS! I'm sick of reading "need advice" or "please help" or even the ever-so-popular "have a question" - of course you have a question or you need advice - THAT'S WHY YOU'RE POSTING! Be clear about the subject or I will rename them or even close them until you repost with an appropriate topic. It's not that difficult guys.

Everyone telling you to search? That's because there are at least 3 repeat topics a week - it's in there somewhere, I guarantee - if you did actually sear then fine, no problem, but it's most likely been covered before - don't always expect detailed answers.

WHAT IS IS THAT YOU'RE ASKING? BE SPECIFIC IN THE POST'S CONTENT - You're obviously asking for help or advice...that's wonderful - but make sure you actually get to the point somewhere in the post.

Stop posting about the best subs or what sub you should get. DO SOME RESEARCH - the net is out there and it's big. What I can find, you can find. It's perfectly fine to ask opinions on different subs - such as which would suit your system 1st, but I'll close any post in which I don't find any background research done! Don't waste everyone's time.

It may seem harsh, I know, but I'm not letting this forum go down the drain. Any complaints, please PM me.

I think if you guys join in the effort we can make this work. The forum would look so much cleaner and be a lot more organized. Double posts would be minimized and noone would have to feel bad about having a post closed because it was already posted a week ago.

News and Support
The following information is directions on how to use the ProbeTalk.com Forums in an efficient way.

For starters, before you begin using the forum, please register. You must register before you may post, search, use private messages, and much more. However with your registration come many rights/responsibilities. Your registration at ProbeTalk.com (henceforth referred to as PT) is a privilege, if you abuse this privilege it will be taken from you. Probe 2C compiled the following notes for use of all users in an attempt to make daily use of the forums easier. PLEASE USE THIS AS A SUPPLICATION TO THE STANDARD FAQ. VB (basic type of forum employed by PT) is a much more powerful tool than ProbeCode of old and hopefully with these new options our users will be pleased. This list will no doubt need to be updated as new changes are discovered, or as changes are made.

Once you have completed the registration process it is advisable that you visit your User Control Panel. This is accessible by any one of the following:

  1. Clicking the Quick Links drop-down menu from the navigation bar at the top of the page, and selcting the options in the User Control Panel area.
  2. Clicking the User CP link from the navigation bar at the top of the page.
  3. Using the link above.

Once you arrive at your User Control Panel (user cp) there are 7 main areas for custom settings:

  1. My vB Home (user control panel)
  2. Edit Profile
  3. Edit Options
  4. Edit Password
  5. Edit Buddy List
  6. Edit Ignore List
  7. Private Messages.

Each of these options has it's own purpose, and upon your first visit, each should be custom tailored to your needs/wants.

My vB Home:
This is simply a link bringing you back to your user cp main page accessible from any of the other 7 areas of the user cp.

Edit Profile:
Inside your profile there are many objects which must be filled out.

In your profile, you MUST provide a valid email address which will not bounce. If the email address you provide bounces your account will be deleted. If your primary email address ever changes, update this information in your profile... systematically the site Administrators will check the user list and send an email. Any accounts which contain e-mails which bounce will be deleted. Please note that anytime you update your email in your profile, a confirmation email will be sent to the new account. In that e-mail there is a link which you must visit in order to re-activate your account.

Aside from the required e-mail address there are many optional items you may choose to provide, these items are available in order to allow other members to know more about you, or for you to provide more information about yourself.

Optional Information:

  1. Homepage: In this text box you are allowed to provide an address to a web-page which you consider to be your personal page. Mind you that by providing a link to this page you are causing that page's contents to be effectively displayed on ProbeTalk.com, please regard any/all regulations as to what is considered appropriate for the board before entering anything here. If you enter something inappropriate it may be removed or your account may be banned.
  2. ICQ number: If you are currently subscribed to the ICQ service enter your ICQ account number in this text box to allow members from the board to contact you via ICQ. Please remember that any registered member can view this... if you choose to post this information ProbeTalk.com is not liable for any harassment or other negative outcomes.
  3. AIM Instant Messenger HandleIf you are currently subscribed to the AIM or AOL service enter your AOL account name in this text box to allow members from the board to contact you via AIM/AOL. Please remember that any registered member can view this... if you choose to post this information ProbeTalk.com is not liable for any harassment or other negative outcomes.
  4. Yahoo Messenger Handle: If you are currently subscribed to the Yahoo Messenger service enter your Yahoo account name in this text box to allow members from the board to contact you via Yahoo. Please remember that any registered member can view this... if you choose to post this information ProbeTalk.com is not liable for any harassment or other negative outcomes.
  5. MSN Messenger Handle: If you are currently subscribed to the Yahoo Messenger service enter your MSN account name in this text box to allow members from the board to contact you via Yahoo. Please remember that any registered member can view this... if you choose to post this information ProbeTalk.com is not liable for any harassment or other negative outcomes.
  6. Signature: This text box is an area which users may choose to write information about themselves, provide links to their other sites, provide information about their car, or pretty much express themselves. This (depending upon your user options) can be displayed in each of a user's post. Other users may choose not to view your signature, however you are urged to provide some information about yourself here. Please read the PT Signature Policy on what is appropriate material for your signature.
  7. Birthdate: This information is entered and shows up on the site calendar. Also, on the main page at the bottom there is a list of any/all birthdays occurring that day.
  8. The rest of the information is largely self-explanatory; it shows up in your profile too.

Edit Options:
You can access your Options by clicking on the My Options link in your user control panel. Or by clicking on the My Options link while in any of the sub headings contained in the user cp. There are many selectable options that you can edit to make the board more personalized to your needs.

  1. Invisible Mode: By selecting yes for this option you will never be listed online. Nobody will ever know you are there. By selecting no (default) other members will be able to see when you are online (and what thread you are in).
  2. Automatically Login: By using cookies, the site will recognize you for who you are. This keeps you from having to log in.
  3. Browse the Board with Cookies: This option may cause the site to load faster, however during beta testing having this option selected often resulted in old versions of an updated page being displayed.

MESSAGE AND NOTIFICATION... READ THIS UNLESS YOU WANT MASS EMAILS REGARDING CURRENT BOARD STATUS AND STUFF.
  1. It is recommended that you ALLOW admins/mods to send you emails/messages.
  2. Hide Email Address: By choosing to hide your email address other users will not be able to send you emails, nor know your email address.
  3. Use Email Notification by Default: Selecting yes on this will cause you to receive emails from every thread in which you reply to. Selecting no will cause you not to.
  4. Enable Private Messages: By selecting this board members can send you messages, and you can send them.
  5. Send an Email when you receive a Private Message: By selecting yes to this with every private message you receive you will also receive an email with a link taking you directly to your PM inbox.
  6. Open Pop-up box when you receive a Private Message: By selecting yes to this with every private message you receive when you load the next new page on the site an additional pop-up box will open asking if you would like to go directly to your private messages (in a new window).
  7. Thread view options are straight forward, and thus need no explanation.
  8. Date and time settings: Please set your start of week, and time offset correctly... This will allow you to quickly decipher any/all of the board’s messages, and when they were posted.
  9. Use vBCode quick links on your message input screens: By selecting NO on this you will not see the links to allow for quick implementation of vB formatting code (basically things which are represented by [COMMAND] [/COMMAND]). Many people will choose NO in order to more closely represent ProbeCode. By selecting YES, it will be easier to generate commands which format text.
  10. Avatar: For members who have donated $20.00 or more there is a list of pre-selected avatars from which you may choose any one. For members who have donated $100+ any file (sized 80x80 pixels) may be used as your avatar. By clicking the Change Avatar box, you may view more details about changing your avatar.

It has been brought to my attention that people do not read the FAQ and correctly format their email notification status before they start posting... because of this there are extra steps required for you to take in order to stop receiving emails.

  • Log on
  • Go to your user cp
  • Select Edit Options
  • To disable the emails you get when you post something and someone replies choose NO for Use 'Email Notification' by default?
  • To disable the emails you get when you receive a private message choose NO for Send you an email when you receive a Private Message?
  • Click My vB Home
  • There are lists of Subscribed Forums and Subscribed Threads
  • In order to stop receiving emails you must manually click Unsubscribe for each of these.
  • To the right of Subscribed Threads there is a link to View all Subscribed ThreadsClick that and verify that you are subscribed to no threads.
  • If there are any threads in that field then unsubscribe from them also.

Edit Password: This area is used when you feel you should change your password. It is advisable that you change your password often, thus reducing the chance of someone figuring yours out and using your account. Note that if you change your password, a confirmation email will be sent to the new account. In that email there is a link which you must visit in order to re-activate your account.

Edit Buddy List: This is a new feature by which you can keep track of certain members and see easily when they are online. To use this simply go to your user cp and click the Edit Buddy List link. You may then fill in names of who you wish to have listed. It is imperative that you correctly spell the name... if you fail to do so your entry will not work.

Edit Ignore List: This is also a new feature by which a user may choose to ignore any user's posts. When you choose to ignore someone, his or her posts will be blanked out. You can still see that they have posted, however you must choose {by clicking a link} to see what they wrote... this should cut down on 2 people constantly flaming.

Private Messages: This system allows you to trade messages with other members of the board. There are many upgrades to the Private Messaging system compared to the probecode version. Most of the use of the private message system is similar to posting, thus I will not give an indepth explanation.

  • When you reply to a private message a copy is stored in your sent items box, and in your message-tracking list. There is a maximum number of private messages you can have in your folders, so delete them regularly.
  • When you reply to a private message the original message's text is copied into your new message. This creates less confusion to what a messages meaning was/is.
  • You may now select multiple PM’s to delete at once, and you can move them into other storage areas in order to keep them.
  • There are now titles to private messages. Do not freak out when all of your old PM’s have "..." as their title, this is because they had not title before vB, thus something has to fill the title's spot
  • You can create new folders for your private messages (one may want to sort them as to: FS/wanted... help... maint. ... for the FAQ... blackmail. Any way you want it, you may have it.
  • You may now track your private messages and see when they were sent/read.
  • If you had old PM’s that you needed and feel as if they have been deleted, please check in the upper right hand corner of your PM screen and see that it is set to a period which that PM may have been from.
  • You have the choice of accepting or denying private messages (or you can disable their delivery to your account).
  • Private messages now have a maximum amount of characters per message

Board Features:

  • The Memberlist can now be sorted by different methods. You can choose from the following: alphabetical; by post count; by date joined, and by a member specific search. (One may also simply click a letter and jump directly to that letter in the alphabetical listing). The memberlist is often useful in attempting to find a certain member, or to get some demographic information.
  • The FAQ is just basic as of now... though this list (complied by Probe 2C) is to be used as a supplement to it.
  • Search is now much more powerful. You can match a partial name... search all open forums and the search is Boolean based w/ hot keys (such as *) too.
  • The forums have been slightly re-arranged in order to better utilize the space available, and to cause more users to use more of the forums.
  • There is a much greater amount of text editing allowable (at different levels to different users). To accompany the previous bold italics and underline come SIZE Font COLOR URL Email Address Picture and some others.
  • There are also 2 vB code modes; Normal & Enhanced. In Normal Mode when you click one of the vB quick links, it will give you a pop up box in which you can type in your affected text. In Enhanced Mode when you click a vB quick link it will only supply you with the beginning set of brackets for your desired command, then you may enter your desired text and click close all tags and it shall do so.
  • At the bottom of each Forum Topic List there is a small text box appearing with the words "search this forum”. You guessed it, by entering something in that text box, you will search that forum for that word/phrase
  • There are now clickable smilies to the immediate left of your new post text box. To use one of these smilies you simply click and their code is added to the END of your message. If you attempt to finish typing your text then moving your cursor to a place in your text which you desire to have a smily present and click one of these smilies it will only place them at the very end of your message.
  • Also, in addition to the clickable smilies you may click Get More to see the complete list of smilies and their codes.
  • Some members may be able to create polls, enter information in the calendar, rate threads, and have other special options.
  • Posts are now kept to a maximum length. You may check that the length of your post does not exceed the maximum length by clicking the link below your text box.
  • There is now a list of the moderators/admins. This list is accessible from the forum index at the bottom right of the screen the link is listed as forum leaders. This is used to aid members in contacting the correct person should a conflict arise.
  • Each post or reply may now have a subject. This is useful if you are attempting to reply to a post which is a couple posts up
When you use the forum jump drop down list, you are automatically forwarded to your selected forum as soon as you choose it. There is now no need to click the Go Icon
  • Admins/Mods can make announcement posts which stay atop a forum, yet cannot be replied to by any normal members.
  • There is now a Site Calendar. 5 Star members and Moderators can post Private or Public events on the calendar.

Methods for Standard use of the Forum:

Step by step process taking you from registration to membership to posting.

Registration: In order to fully utilize the abilities of this board, the administrator will probably require that you register as a member. Registration is free, and allows you to do the following:

  • Post new threads
  • Reply to other peoples' threads
  • Edit your posts
  • Receive email notification of replies to posts and threads you specify
  • Send private messages to other members
  • Enter events in the board calendar
  • Set up a 'buddy-list' to quickly see which of your friends are currently online

To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. Entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide your email address, and messages sent to you via email do not reveal your address to the sender in any case. (To verify this, you can try sending an email message to another user.) The administrator may have configured the board to send you the final part of the registration process by email, so ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working.

Searching: Senior members LOVE when new members search before they start using the board to post. You can search for posts based on username, word(s) in the post or just in the subject, by date, and only in particular forums. To access the search feature, click on the "search" link at the top of most pages. You can search any forum that you have permission to search - you will not be allowed to search through private forums unless the administrator has given you the necessary security rights to do so.

Posting: Before you make a new post, navigate to the forum which the post best fits and choose to make a new topic or reply to a topic which is existing. Your text can be modified, you can use vB tags in order to liven up your text, there are available smilies, and many other things. All information about posting can be found here.

Private Messages:

Sending Private Messages: Private messages work a little like email, but are limited to registered members of this board. You may be able to include vB Code, smilies and images in private messages that you send.

You may send a private message to a member of this board by clicking the 'Send A Private Message' link in the private messaging section of your user control panel, or by clicking the PM button in a member's posts. When you send a message, you have the option to save a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.

Private Message Folders: By default, you will have two folders in your private message area. These are the Inbox and the Sent Items folders. The Inbox folder contains any new messages you receive, and allows you to view all the messages you have received, along with the name of the person who sent the message to you, and the date and time the message was sent. The Sent Items folder contains a copy of any messages that you have sent, where you have specified that you wish to keep a copy of the message for future reference. You may create additional folders for your messages by clicking the 'Edit Folders' link.

Each folder has a set of message controls which allow you to select messages, then either move them to one of your custom folders, or delete them completely. You may also have a button which allows you to forward multiple messages from a folder to another member of the board.

You will need to periodically delete old messages, as the administrator has probably set a limit to the number of private messages you can have in your folders. If you exceed the number of messages specified by the administrator, you will not be able to send or receive new messages until you delete some old messages.

Whenever you read a message, you will have the option to reply to the message, or forward that message to another member of the board. You may also have the ability to forward that message to multiple members of your buddy list.

Message Tracking: When you send a new private message, you may have the option to request a read-receipt for that message. This will allow you to check whether or not its recipient has read a message by viewing the Private Message Tracking page. This page is divided into two sections: unread messages and read messages. The unread messages section shows all messages that you have sent with a read-receipt request, that have not yet been read by their recipient. The time of the last activity of the message recipient is also shown. Messages in this section can be cancelled if you decide that their contents are no longer relevant, or for any other reason. Cancelled messages can also be restored to active status if the administrator has enabled this feature. The read messages section shows all messages you have sent with a receipt request that have been read and acknowledged by their recipient. The time that the message was read is also shown.

You may choose to end the tracking on any message you choose by selecting the message and clicking the [end tracking] button.

When you receive a message with a read-receipt request, you may have the option to read the message while denying the read-receipt request. To do this, simply click the 'deny receipt' link rather than the title of the message, if it appears.

Other: If you have any more questions or concerns feel free to contact the author of this FAQ directly Probe 2C or Post in the News and Support Forum (strictly for site related issues) or email the board Administrators.

Buyer Beware!
I've been seeing this alot lately, and I just thought I'd like to clairfy our policy a bit.

The Problem: You send money to a user selling an item, and never received the part/they will not respond to you/shipping is taking longer than expected/materials are damaged/materials do not fit! What do you do?

A: In short, your only recourse is to request a refund, or in the case of non-delivery of goods, contact your local law enforcement and post office if the mail service was used to send out any payment.

I would guesstimate that 80% of internet fraud cases go unsolved or unresolved. It's the nature of the beast. There are, however, things you can do to keep the chance of you becoming a fraud victim to a minimum.

These include:

  • If the deal sounds too good to be true, 99% chance that it IS. Its better to miss out on a GOOD deal, than take a chance with your hard earned money and lose it.
  • Know the person you are buying from, and the shop/resource from which they are acquiring their product Within this format of commerce, it can be difficult to really get an idea of the caliber of individual you are dealing with. Ask the person for email addresses of those with whom he/she has does business in the past. Click on the "profile" of the user. If it is one of those bare-bones profiles, with little/no information, this person MAY have something to hide. Not a positive indicator, but one consideration of many. Ask other users about the individual. Private Message some of those who may have also replied about an item, see if they know anything about the seller. Search the board for the person's user name. If most/all of his posts are in the For Sale and Kills forums, that would tend to be a "strike against" the user. Generally, people who participate in the board regularly are less likely to default on shipping a product, etc. And if they DO take your money and run, the chance is greater that someone local lives close to them, or has had interaction with them which may allow you to track down where they went. Above all, remember its YOUR money. Money in hand is worth far more than "parts in the mail".
  • Other sources of obtaining help: There may be laws in your state, or agencies designed to assist you in internet fraud cases. Contact your State Attorney General for more information.

Sending email to the ProbeTalk.com Admin account is not recommended regarding this issue. We cannot act as a collection agency, nor can we get your money back for you.

We DO feel badly for those who have lost money, however we remind you that use of the For Sale forum, and any business conducted is solely the responsibility of the parties involved. Much like you wouldn't hold a Newspaper accountable if you sent money for a product in their classified ad's section, and the product never came.

To ANY potential sellers on this board:

ProbeTalk.com WILL encourage the person who suffers a loss to file whatever necessary charges against the person who withholds funds and/or fulfillment of their obligation. The US Postal Service takes mail fraud very seriously.

If it can be proven that a member has knowingly defrauded another member of the board, it is grounds for immediate and PERMANENT banishment from the board. There will be NO middle ground on this!

To those who have been slighted:

Posting a topic to flame the person is 100% against Policy. Doing so will get the thread closed, or in more severe cases deleted. This also includes placing ANY derogatory remarks in your signatures. Repeated offenses of the anti-flaming policy will warrant contact from the staff, and if need be, your removal from the forums. Please don't make it come to that.

We really love to see the use this forum gets, and are very happy to see the many, many satisfied transactions which take place. We encourage proper use of the forum.

If you have ANY questions on what is allowed to be posted, Private Message or email the ProbeTalk.com staff before you post.

Thanks for your time...

On behalf of the entire ProbeTalk.com Staff,

Chris - Probe 2C - ProbeTalk.com Administrator Emeritus
Damon - dmark101 - ProbeTalk.com Site Owner and Administrator

Corner Store and Advertising
UPDATED: Changes have been made, effective 1 Nov 2010, and are in RED

The general WTB forum has been REINSTATED and REOPENED!

Rules for the Corner Store forums:

  • No E-bay links - if you want to sell something here, sell it. This is not an auction house.
  • No feeler threads - again, if you want to sell something, sell it.
  • No soliciting sales through the PM system. If you are caught doing this, you will be dealt with accordingly.
  • If you are selling something, include either a fixed price or the lowest acceptable price.
  • Please use a descriptive thread title. If you post in the For Sale forum, please add a FS: tag to whatever it is you're selling.
  • Please add state tags in all thread titles in the CS, No one is excluded from this.
  • Post in the CORRECT forum. Miscellaneous items belong in that forum. The For Sale forum is strictly for Probe/MX-6/MX-3/626 related items.
  • If you have multiple items for sale, list them in ONE thread!
  • Only Authorized PT Vendors may post new threads in the Vendor For Sale forum. This is to facilitate easily finding the Vendors sale threads.
  • Any sellers must now include a picture of the item they are selling, along with something showing their screen name and ProbeTalk.com alongside the item they're selling. NO PHOTOSHOPPED INSERTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED!
  • This includes motor vehicles as well as miscellaneous non-automotive items.
  • Anyone who takes an unreasonable amount of time to deliver goods or pay for those goods will be UNCONDITIONALLY BANNED PERMANENTLY.
  • The ONLY way to reverse this is to make good on your commitment and then both seller and buyer contact me to lift the ban.
  • Anyone banned and reinstated for failing to deliver/pay for goods will not be allowed back into the Corner Store.
  • "Reasonable time" means not more than 15 days after a deal has been reached, unless the parties involved have made prior arrangements.
  • The minimum number of posts required to view the Corner Store is 15.
  • Lastly, no *bump* posts. This is frowned upon and we look at it in the same light as 'free post'. DO NOT DO IT!

These rules were not meant to be all-inclusive, however with the amount of time spent trying to work them out, these are the best set of rules that we felt should be documented and made readily available for the members and to provide a point of reference for the staff in case they are approached with any questions.

The rules for the Corner Store are always up for review and revision as necessary.

To clarify a few things regarding advertising: when the board was first created, we did not seek sponsorships of any kind. As the board grew, it became necessary to seek out and secure sponsors for the site in order to help growth of the site and to maintain/upgrade the server on which it sat. Any additional funds were used to acquire site items that were made available for sale and to help provide funding for meets the site would help sponsor or sponsor entirely.

We have done our best to remain outside of the vendor/customer relationship. We have never tried to push any sort of vendor or product to our membership, as it has often been alluded to in the past, we have taken this stance so that we would not be perceived as 'playing favorites. We think it has worked well and our members have been able to speak their minds freely, however as with most sites, there have been some members who have taken this to the extreme and felt that they were entitled to do so.

As a result, this means that we will continue to implement a policy on non-sponsor advertisements and general spam. We will not hinder discussion of competing websites or their products as long as it is relevant to the discussion at hand, however general spamming or promotion of competing sites or of non-sponsored vendors or products cannot be allowed. To allow this would do a disservice to the vendors/sponsors who have given their time and resources to help make this site available to everyone.

An example of a relevant discussion would be regarding throttle bodies, intake manifolds, or suspension items. Yes, it would be okay to mention who manufactured the item and what the benefits of the product would be vs. another manufacturer's product. It would NOT be okay to mention where to purchase them if they are NOT an Authorized PT Vendor or site sponsor.

Another example would be using the private messaging system to circumvent the advertising rules. A last example are signature links. Only Authorized PT Vendors are allowed to have links to their website or to any other Vendor site. There are NO exceptions. Any violator may or may not be warned if they are in violation.

A final example would be lurking through the For Sale forum for potential customers if you are someone who is operating a salvage business. By salvage business, we mean that you are a person or agent of a company who deals in the salvage parts trade. This could mean someone who frequents the local salvage yards, picks up whatever parts are available, then comes onto the board looking to sell them. This is a means of using a free service to promote your business and that is considered unauthorized advertising.

We ask for your understanding in our need to take these steps for the betterment of our community. These changes should not affect most of the membership, except in a good way. If you've had a good experience with a sponsor, by all means, let others know; if your experience wasn't so good, we ask that you let others know of this as well. This is what the feedback system is for and we encourage everyone to use it.

Our operating procedures will always be independent of any vendor or product and we will always listen to suggestions that any member might have.

PT Vendor Ratings
The old system of using a forum and posting a thread with user feedbck is gone. Replacing it is a system that uses trader ratings, similar to what is found on eBay.

This new system allows the buyer and seller to leave positive, neutral, or negative feedback for any transactions that have taken place. Please keep in mind that no nasty or inappropriate comments or remarks should be used at ANY time. The Administration reserves the right to edit such feedback if it violates the basic rules of conduct.

Bulk Buys
Rule Number 1 - DO NOT POST HOME ADDRESSES IF IT IS NOT YOUR OWN.

After an influx recently of both emails to the Admin account and posted messages, the staff would like to clarify the purpose and direction the Bulk Buy forum takes.

Q: I am starting a business providing (stickers/parts/paint/etc), can I use the bulk buy forum to let people know about my excellent prices, after all, I'm just trying to help out the Probers?!

A: No. The Bulk Buy forum is designed for specific users to sell specific ITEMS...not services. If you have a chance to provide a mass of products at a special price, such as your local performance shop will give you PowerSlot rotors for $3 above cost or you know someone who will give you x product for y price of you have z participants, then use this forum. If you are selling products from your own personal shop from which you will profit, then inquire about purchasing banner space. The current rates are available on a case-by-case basis, depending on how often it shows, etc. If we see that a member is contracted (be it via employment or sponsorship) selling items in order to profit they will be considered a "business", and further posts will be deleted, and/or your access to the forum will be removed.

Q: I want permission to post my business related ads in this forum, how do i obtain that? I have permission, so why are my ads being closed by the moderators?

A: Starting right now NO ONE has permission to post any business related items in ANY forum on probetalk. We will have a new advertising section up in the future that will explain prices (some which will be very reasonable) and how to go about buying advertising from probetalk.com.

Q: I sent money to a user running a bulk buy, and never received the parts/they will not respond to me/shipping is taking longer than expected/materials are damaged/materials do not fit! What do I do?

A: In short, you are screwed.

Its better to miss out on a GOOD deal, than take a chance with your hard earned money and lose.
  • Know the person you are buying from, and the shop/resouce from which they are acquiring their product Within this format of commerce, it can be difficult to really get an idea of the caliber of individual you are dealing with.

While we DO feel badly for those who have lost money, we remind you that use of the Bulk Buy forum and any business conducted, is solely the responsibility of the parties involved. Much like you wouldn't hold a newspaper accountable if you sent money for a product in their classified ads section and the product never came.

We really love to see the use this forum gets and are very happy to see the many, many satisfied transactions which take place. We encourage proper use of the forum, and welcome your thoughts and feedback, appropriately presented of course.

If you have ANY questions on what is allowed to be posted, Private Message or email the ProbeTalk.com staff before you post.

ADDENDUM #1

Please email or PM me, or any other moderator of this forum, when a BB is completed or cancelled and INCLUDE a LINK to the post.

When looking to start a Bulk Buy on Probetalk.com, please follow these simple instructions:

BEFORE YOU POST A NEW BB THREAD:
  • Decide what item you want to run a bulk buy on.
  • Contact several suppliers and vendors to see who can give you the best deals.
  • After deciding on which supplier to go with, make sure to get all the information you can. Call them back and get their business address, telephone number and confirm that they will honor the bulk buy.
  • When this has been completed, then you may approach the Administration (or myself) with this information and we can start the approval process.
  • ANY UNAUTHORIZED BB 'FEELERS' OR INTEREST THREADS, AS WELL AS BB THREADS WILL BE REMOVED.

WHEN POSTING THE BB THREAD:
  • Include specifics such as what year / model the products are good for.
  • Be sure to include your e-mail address
  • Bulk buys are open no longer than 30 days. These won't drag out for weeks or months. Tell everyone that they have a specific amount of time to pay for the products.

ONCE THE BB HAS BEGUN:
  • Keep everyone updated. This is CRUCIAL as some customers are meticulous about knowing orders status.
  • Check the thread as often as possible to answer any questions.
  • Be sure to have the supplier's info ready to give to anyone participating in this BB in case of any problems.
  • Do NOT share personal information of one participant with another.

WHEN GETTING IN ON A BULK BUY:
  • Make sure you want the product and can actually afford it.
  • Get all the info and ask questions before you commit to a BB.
  • Do NOT give your personal information in the thread. Send it to the BB organizer in a PM or e-mail
  • Be patient. Some suppliers can take several weeks to get products shipped. Also, the BB organizer may be handling a large amount of orders. Give them some slack.

I hope this covers most of the recent issues. Any details not covered in this announcement should be discussed with me or a BB organizer.

UPDATE:

Due to some recent trends and some collective thinking on the part of staff, there is a slight change to the policy regarding companies (members who work at import shops/etc) proposing to run bulk buys. Upon approval companies will be allowed to run bulk buys at the rate of $50/bulk buy. Authorized Vendors are not subject to this charge as they have paid for banner space. This is an effort to bring more bulk buys to this site as well as encourage more companies to purchase advertising space. This change to policy will be effective starting 5/20/2003.

This was proposed after a recent influx of proposed bulk buys by members who were employed and/or owned businesses. Obviously these people are able to offer better prices than a normal user is able to get terms on. Should this become a problem, or should it become overly used/abused, this will be stopped.

Again, we would greatly encourage the purchase of banner space, however by paying a 'per bulk buy' fee (upon approval) you are able to run a bulk buy.

Normal members are still able to run bulk buys at no charge. Users who are affiliated with a company and do not disclose this information at the start of a bulk buy will either be back-charged the amount owed, or their access to the forum will be disabled.

Also, bulk buys will remain open for a period not longer than 30 calendar days from the date of first approval. After the conclusion of the 30-day period, the thread will remain open so that people can receive any updated information pertaining to their merchandise. After the last person receives their order, the thread will be closed. There should not be any perpetual bulk buys or group purchases.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EXTEND THE BULK BUY PAST THE ORIGINALLY APPROVED TIME PERIOD WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION

Lastly, obtain approval BEFORE posting ANY 'feelers' or 'interest' threads.

Thank you for your time and again, any questions or comments please contact dmark101 or the ProbeTalk Administration

The Photo and Video Gallery / Probe Pic & Video Post
I just wanted to set a few guidelines for the Photo/Video gallery. Basically it's just things that I find being posted about once a week, or sometimes once or twice a day, that I just delete on sight. I guess it's just common things people like to post, but they're things that just don't belong on PT.com.

I think the first and foremost thing on my list is the following threads, and I see them about once every 2 days, usually more:

*PIC REQUEST* HOT GIRLS ON NICE CARS OR NOT ON CARS

or something to that effect. Basically, just someone looking for pictures of "hot" girls. My response to that is, "This is Probetalk, not a porn site." You can go to Google and type in "hot girls" and find plenty of material to suit your interests.

Another one that bothers me a bit is when someone posts a picture of their own car and asks for opinions. Then someone, who apparently doesn't have a taste for the car, posts something like the following:

"Wow, that car is trash. It's a disgrace to Probes. Put that Probe out of its misery and go buy a Civic"

You get the idea. That's not an opinion. That's an extremely disrespectful comment that needs not be said. I think we could avoid a lot of confrontation if people would use some tact in their replies.

The only other major issue I see, before I move on to the little things, is the Ford vs. GM battle. It seems like every time someone posts a Ford car or concept or something, the "Ford haters" have to put their two cents in about Ford sucking. And vice-versa, when someone posts a picture of, say, a Camaro, or a Cadillac or something, it always seems to draw "Chevy haters" who need to put their two cents in about how GM sucks. It really is a pointless argument and I think what I'm trying to say is if your only reply to a thread is to degrade the brand name, then you obviously don't have anything worthwhile to include about the REAL subject of the thread. Solution: Just don't post.

The only other things I have are a few nitpicky little things. When you start a thread, you MUST include a picture in your thread-starting post. The only exception is if you are REQUESTING a picture, in which case, I'd like to see the word "Request" in the subject line of the post.

I think that's all I have for now. If I think of anything else, I'll add it.

Also, the forum rules for picture size is this: 800x600 MAXIMUM RESOLUTION.

Any pictures deviating from that policy may have the image changed to a link or it may be removed at the moderator's discretion. This is done to preserve site speed for those members who are still on dial-up or on lower speed DSL/Cable connections.
