Corner Store Forums Rules - PLEASE READ this and the stickies!

UPDATED: Changes have been made, effective 1 Nov 2010, and are in RED

The general WTB forum has been REINSTATED and REOPENED!

Rules for the Corner Store forums:
  • No E-bay links - if you want to sell something here, sell it. This is not an auction house.
  • No feeler threads - again, if you want to sell something, sell it.
  • No soliciting sales through the PM system. If you are caught doing this, you will be dealt with accordingly.
  • If you are selling something, include either a fixed price or the lowest acceptable price.
  • Please use a descriptive thread title. If you post in the For Sale forum, please add a FS: tag to whatever it is you're selling.
  • Please add state tags in all thread titles in the CS, No one is excluded from this.
  • Post in the CORRECT forum. Miscellaneous items belong in that forum. The For Sale forum is strictly for Probe/MX-6/MX-3/626 related items.
  • If you have multiple items for sale, list them in ONE thread!
  • Only Authorized PT Vendors may post new threads in the Vendor For Sale forum. This is to facilitate easily finding the Vendors sale threads.
  • Any parts sellers must now include a picture of the parts they are selling, along with something showing their screen name and ProbeTalk.com alongside the item they're selling
  • Anyone who takes an unreasonable amount of time to deliver goods or pay for those goods will be UNCONDITIONALLY BANNED PERMANENTLY.
  • The ONLY way to reverse this is to make good on your commitment and then both seller and buyer contact me to lift the ban.
  • Anyone banned and reinstated for failing to deliver/pay for goods will not be allowed back into the Corner Store.
  • "Reasonable time" means not more than 15 days after a deal has been reached, unless the parties involved have made prior arrangements.
  • The minimum number of posts required to view the Corner Store is 15.
  • Lastly, no *bump* posts. This is frowned upon and we look at it in the same light as 'free post'. DO NOT DO IT!

These rules were not meant to be all-inclusive, however with the amount of time spent trying to work them out, these are the best set of rules that we felt should be documented and made readily available for the members and to provide a point of reference for the staff in case they are approached with any questions.

The rules for the Corner Store are always up for review and revision as necessary.

To clarify a few things regarding advertising: when the board was first created, we did not seek sponsorships of any kind. As the board grew, it became necessary to seek out and secure sponsors for the site in order to help growth of the site and to maintain/upgrade the server on which it sat. Any additional funds were used to acquire site items that were made available for sale and to help provide funding for meets the site would help sponsor or sponsor entirely.

We have done our best to remain outside of the vendor/customer relationship. We have never tried to push any sort of vendor or product to our membership, as it has often been alluded to in the past, we have taken this stance so that we would not be perceived as 'playing favorites. We think it has worked well and our members have been able to speak their minds freely, however as with most sites, there have been some members who have taken this to the extreme and felt that they were entitled to do so.

As a result, this means that we will continue to implement a policy on non-sponsor advertisements and general spam. We will not hinder discussion of competing websites or their products as long as it is relevant to the discussion at hand, however general spamming or promotion of competing sites or of non-sponsored vendors or products cannot be allowed. To allow this would do a disservice to the vendors/sponsors who have given their time and resources to help make this site available to everyone.

An example of a relevant discussion would be regarding throttle bodies, intake manifolds, or suspension items. Yes, it would be okay to mention who manufactured the item and what the benefits of the product would be vs. another manufacturer's product. It would NOT be okay to mention where to purchase them if they are NOT an Authorized PT Vendor or site sponsor.

Another example would be using the private messaging system to circumvent the advertising rules. A last example are signature links. Only Authorized PT Vendors are allowed to have links to their website or to any other Vendor site. There are NO exceptions. Any violator may or may not be warned if they are in violation.

A final example would be lurking through the For Sale forum for potential customers if you are someone who is operating a salvage business. By salvage business, we mean that you are a person or agent of a company who deals in the salvage parts trade. This could mean someone who frequents the local salvage yards, picks up whatever parts are available, then comes onto the board looking to sell them. This is a means of using a free service to promote your business and that is considered unauthorized advertising.

We ask for your understanding in our need to take these steps for the betterment of our community. These changes should not affect most of the membership, except in a good way. If you've had a good experience with a sponsor, by all means, let others know; if your experience wasn't so good, we ask that you let others know of this as well. This is what the feedback system is for and we encourage everyone to use it.

Our operating procedures will always be independent of any vendor or product and we will always listen to suggestions that any member might have.

  • 2011 CORNER STORE RULES - Do not make a new thread until you READ THIS

DO NOT MAKE A NEW FOR SALE THREAD UNTIL YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE FOLLOWING RULES

YOUR THREAD WILL BE CLOSED IF IT DOESN’T ABIDE BY THEM:

I’m sorry I have to yell and use all caps, but over the last 3 months, almost 40% of all new threads failed to follow the clearly posted, and simple rules for selling in the corner store.

It is YOUR responsibility to ensure all the rules are followed, not the moderators’. There will be no warnings or grace periods for threads to come into compliance. If you’re not ready to post (no pics, etc), then don’t make the thread yet.

    1. Photo requirements
    • Any sellers on ProbeTalk must now include a picture of the item they are selling, along with something showing their screen name and ProbeTalk.com alongside the item they're selling – no exceptions!!! - no photoshopped insertions.
    • This includes motor vehicles as well as miscellaneous non-automotive items.
    • This means EVERY item must have that sign in there. Make sure the item is legible. There is no requirement for a date. Just your ‘screen name’ and ‘probetalk’.
    • If you don’t have the photos, don’t make the thread.
    • You can now use [IMG] tags to post photos here just as you would in the Image forums – however, the same image restrictions are in place here: 800x600 max resolution and 10 images per post. IF you have larger images, post them as links (use the [url] tags).

    2. PRICE - You MUST have a price for your items. No “make me an offer” sales are allowed. You may put a price + OBO next to it. No FEELER threads allowed.

    3. Add [State] tags to For Sale/Wanted threads
    • You MUST add a state tag to your thread title – it should be the FIRST thing in your title, in SQUARE [ ] or ROUND ( ) brackets. Use the following format:
    • For Example: (State Tag Here) followed by thread title, like this: (NY) Parts Galore for 2nd gen PGT
    • For CANADIAN sellers: (Province, CAN) followed by thread title, like this: (Alberta, CAN) Parts Galore for 2nd gen PGT
    • International sellers: (Country) followed by thread title, like this: (Australia) Parts Galore for 2nd gen PGT

This will make things easier for PT members to determine if someone is selling something in their area which will allow them to not have to deal with shipping and rather do local sales.. This also lets people know where the parcel is coming from to determine shipping and tracking.

    4. Shipping out parts you’ve sold – time table
    • anyone who takes an unreasonable amount of time to deliver goods or pay for those goods will be UNCONDITIONALLY BANNED PERMANENTLY.
    • the ONLY way to reverse this is to make good on your commitment and then both seller and buyer contact Damon/Stacey to lift the ban.
    • anyone banned and reinstated for failing to deliver/pay for goods will not be allowed back into the Corner Store
    • "resonable time" means not more than 15 days after a deal has been reached, unless the parties involved have made prior arrangements
    • USE tracking numbers – FedEx/UPS provide them for free on their receipt; US Postal service delivery confirmation (bright green tags) are about a dollar – these will be invaluable along with the shipping receipt should claims be filed against you. SAVE your receipts/tracking numbers for your protection.

    5. No EBAY/Craigslist/Kijiji/WHATEVER auction/ad links
    • This is self explanatory. No links to your auction on Ebay, on other car forum site, on Craigslist, ANYTHING. Your thread will be locked and you may get infracted especially given how CLEAR this rule is.
    • If you take the time to click the ‘New Thread’ button, make it right and post the entire ad here instead of making people chase your links all over the net

    6. NO "BUMPING" - No *bump* posts. DO NOT BUMP YOUR THREADS!!!!
This is frowned upon and we look at it in the same light as 'free post'. DO NOT DO IT!
If you need to adjust your price, you may do so no more often than once every 72 hours (3 days), or by editing your original thread. Thinly veiled bumps like:
    • ”hey guys, still have this”
    • ”must sell now, quintuplets on the way”
    • ”bump for a good part”

will be subject to thread closure for violating rule #6 at the SOLE DISCRETION OF THE MODERATOR.

    7. No links in signatures - You may not put links to your ads or your For Sale items’ descriptions in your signature – no exceptions!
    • it is hereby clearly stated in the CS announcement that links to ANY sale thread are the sole province of the Authorized PT Vendors - ONLY!
    • this means that any member caught with a link to their thread in the CS store will have it removed, WITH or WITHOUT warning.
    • remember that we DO NOT have to warn anyone of a signature edit. if you are warned, it is strictly a courtesy and the responsibility is yours to immediately change it. if you fail to do so within a reasonable time period, it will be done for you.
    • the first instance of failure to abide by the rule will coincide with a 72-hour stay in The Hole™. any subsequent failure will result in an undetermined length of stay there or worse, to be left to the sole discretion of the forum administrators.

    8. Common Courtesy – do NOT POST in a thread you have no intention of buying from with the sole purpose of bashing the price or the seller. IF you have a concern about a part being over/under priced, you may send the seller a private message with your thoughts. You may NOT tell him/her that the same part can be had on EBay for less, or any other comment of that nature.

    9. Post your parts only - Do not make any posts on behalf of someone else unless specifically and previously approved by an administrator.

    10. Sold Parts - Once an item sells, EDIT your original threads with a [SOLD] next to the item so that others searching for similar things know whether you still have it or not and won’t needlessly bother you with private messages.

    11. Do not make requests for unlisted items - this is particularly applicable to part-out threads, but is enforceable on ALL threads. The only exception is where the partout thread is particularly large AND the owner/thread starter SPECIFICALLY posts that it is OK to ask about unlisted items. Violators WILL be infracted.

We will count on you to keep things civil and police yourselves, but will not hesitate to step in and restore order if that is too much to ask – use your common sense.

    12. No 'feeler' threads -
Self explanatory. You either have the car/part for sale, or you don't. Feeler threads have ended poorly in the past. If you're not sure you want to sell it, don't sell it. Or do, and decide when you're being made an offer.

    13. IF YOUR THREAD IS CLOSED -
    • First, look at the ‘closed’ reason – did you break one of the rules listed? Fix the problem and make a new thread if so instructed. Most likely you forgot to add photos, you bumped your thread, you didn’t post prices, forgot a state tag in the title, etc. We are here to make sure the rules are followed, not babysit you and fix the constant stream of badly made threads by those who do not read the rules.
    • If you’re told to NOT make any other threads, don’t.
    • Don’t make a thread asking about why one of your threads was closed
    • As a last resort, you may message and admin/moderator POLITELY about your thread closure if you still need clarification. We don’t hate you, or your parts, or your car – it’s not personal, don’t get all bent out of shape. If it’s a misunderstanding, it will get resolved.
    • Moderating takes a lot of time and patience - I and the other mods/admins do NOT want to close threads, despite misguided perceptions. It takes dozens of hours each month to monitor the new threads, and check that they comply with a few carefully written rules. Make our job easier by doing yours

    14. Addendum - December 23, 2011 -
The "grace period" period is over. There are too many people who start new threads without even so much as a bother in the direction of this simple rules thread. From here on out, if your thread doesn't conform, it gets closed. See point #12 above for what to do in that case.

Review these rules each time you want to make a new thread. The admins/mods reserve the right to edit these rules at any time without prior notice. This post is fluid, and amendments and addenda are constantly enumerated here to cover new scenarios or clarify some old rule. We make every effort to make your stay here pleasant - we only ask for the same in kind.

Thank you, and good luck in the Corner Store.
