  • Parts Availability?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but it seemed to be the best fit since there's not really a general technical forum.

I've been out of the Probe/MX-6 game for quite some time. I sold my 2nd gen PGT and 1st gen MX-6 GT around the 2004-2005 time frame, so yeah, I've been away a while. I drop back in here every once in a while because I still love these cars but have never put another one in the driveway.

I consider buying another 2nd gen every once in a while, but always talk myself out of it. I know that parts aren't out there like they used to be. Hell, back in the day, I could drive over to my local U-Pull It and get whatever I wanted for these cars. These days, not so much. So my question is, how is parts availability for these cars these days really? I'm not really talking about aftermarket. To be honest, that was never great in comparison to a lot of other cars, though I'll throw a shout out to Probesport and others for giving us some of the great stuff that we did have.

I'm talking more about replacement parts. I'm sure brakes/rotors, tie rods, etc..are all fine, but what about other stuff? Electronics, sensors, and so on? I hardly see these cars on the road at all anymore, which on one hand makes me want another one even more, but at the same time, I want to be able to keep it on the road without having to have parts cars laying around to do it.

So how is it these days?

Plenty of maintenance parts still out there. And plenty of factory replacement parts too. A lot of old dealer stock on Ebay with NOS parts comes up on a regular basis.

Yeah as far as replacement parts, I haven't had a hard time either. In regards to little buttons, and misc interior (probe specific) parts, ebay would be your best bet. Unless you can get on a notification list at a local U Pull It, then they contact you when a certain year/car comes in.

A few years ago I noticed how the local u pull it yards were getting less and less our of cars so I found a whole car and picked it up as a parts car. That may not be a bad option for you either (if you have room) probably get one for $300-$500 and strip it down and store the parts in the attic.

Good to know. Parts cars are an option, I have the room, it's just not the way I'd like to go if I don't have to.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But I looked at it as I have 1 spare part of "everything". Plus mine came with a bunch of aftermarket stuff too. So if the right deal comes along, give it some serious consideration.

Probesport, what parts do you have in your inventory? I'm currently looking for the passenger and driver side rubber seal that goes around the window. Lastly, have you ever thought of selling your Probe?
