Doing a rehab on my ole 96 PGT. Tired of it sitting there rotting when it starts and drives without fault.
TLDR Front brakes from a 2002-2005 Mazda 6 S are bolt on for a 2nd gen Probe.
I had upgraded the fronts on my 2005 Mazda 6 with the front set off a 2010 Ford Fusion, and had a perfectly good 6 stock set laying around. At this time, I do not believe the newer larger ~2010 Fusion brakes will fit within the PGT stock rims. They are the same bolt patterns and everything, but the rotor is larger than the 6's already and would likely require 17" or better rims to fit.
The Maz 6S calipers, pads, and rotors are a direct bolt on without any modifications. The piston is the same size, there's a little more pad area, as well as larger diameter rotors. The caliper just misses the spokes on the stock swirlies, and good clearance from the inside of the rim.
Fits in the rim pretty well. Took a gamble and rebuilt the calipers without test fitting. Diameter of the rotors is basically an inch larger, and the pads are much taller to cover the extra disk real-estate. All the bolts lined up and no fitment issues at all.
The Mazda rear calipers DO NOT fit. I compared them, and while they will bolt on and are hydraulically the same, the parking brake arrangement is clocked completely differently and would require a different parking cable arrangement. It is possible that the cables from a Mazda would work, but I did not investigate further.
As the car is undergoing rehab and is missing a few things it only got a drive around the block and nothing felt out of the ordinary, no issues were noted.
DON'T FORGET TO CHECK AND/OR REPLACE YOUR BRAKE LINES.
