  • anyone want a thing?

hey, anybody want my 73 Thing?? If you paid me what I've put into it (about $200) and came and picked it up, I'll let it go, this is for people in APOC though. BTW, picking it up means towing it b/c it doesn't exactly run at the moment. im me for details.

a 73 Volkswagon Thing. its kinda like the bastard child of a massive orgy between a ford explorer, a jeep wrangler and a volkswagon beetle. if you've ever seen rat race, the neo-nazi people chase the guys in hitler's car in things, and in speed 2, the girl drives off in a yellow thing in the end of the movie. just to give you an idea. www.thingsunlimited.net

well, lets just say that my "thing" has been through a lot. before me, it was owned by a friend who didn't care what he owned, and before him, a "flower child". so, it definately needs paint, badly. On top of that, the "flower child" wrecked it on the driver side, he messed up the fender and the rear air vent. plus its a 73, so dings and dents are relatively prevelant. after he screwed up the fender, he just took both the fenders off and remounted the lights on the front apron, which is still bent from the wreck. mechanically, it seems alright. it hasn't run since 95, but after I changed the oil (that is one of the strangest processes in the world), I could crank it after pouring gas in the carb. bowl, so the engine and ignition system is in good shape. The fuel system however, is not. I've replaced the busted original fuel pump w/ an electronic one, put an inline fuel pressure regulator on, new inline filter, and I've run an entirely new line from the tank back to the engine. the only thing left to rebuild/replace is the solex carb, which I don't really want to do. after fixing the carb, the "Thing" should be ready to drive, and after replacing the fenders, experimenting w/ a little fiberglass bondo and painting, the "Thing" should be road worthy. I was going to do a bright yellow exterior on a white interior and top. anyways, sorry about the length, but thats the story of my thing. the offer right now stands at 300 b/c thats what some dude at my work is giving me for it, I'll see if that will fall through or not on friday.

Hrmm... yeah, sounds like a good buy for anyone that gets it... carb shouldn't be all that expensive.. I'm kinda short on cash myself right now as I just put some money towards a 93 probe ash and I just got... Needs some work, but doesn't anything? Anyhoo, good luck with it!
