  • Official SCPOC Meet: Angeles Crest Highway - June 9, 2013

'BOUT TIME THE ROAD IS OPEN!

Sorry about that. Caltrans took forever to re-open the road!

That means it's time for one of the BEST SCPOC meets of the year!

    Event: Angeles Crest Highway
    Date: Sunday - June 9, 2013
    Start time: Approximately 10:00 AM
Meeting Location: Pasadena Rose Bowl - parking lot "I"

We'll meet up at the Rose Bowl parking lot at 10AM. Then we'll leave for ACH no later than 10:30AM - you should be ready, in your vehicle, and set to go. If not, we can make a fuel stop before heading up onto the highway, but please be courteous enough to fuel up beforehand. There are restrooms at the gas station and at the parking lot in the Rose Bowl if you need to go before the cruise starts.

The cruise will start along Angeles Crest Highway, then we'll take a turn up to Mount Wilson. Once we get to the top, we'll stop for a few pics, then come return and head down ACH until we get to Islip Saddle, where ACH meets with SR-39.

The back half of ACH is open, so we'll get to enjoy the trip through to Wrightwood, before turning off onto SR-138 and then off to I-15. We can head south on the 15 and grab a bite to eat at The Hat in Ontario.

In any event, this will be a GREAT drive and one that we'll all enjoy!

*Note* - If for whatever reason, the road past the junction of SR-2 and SR-39 [aka Islip Saddle] is not open, we will turn back and have lunch at Newcomb's Ranch.

What we would appreciate you bringing:
    • FRS radio - we will establish the channel at the meet location
    • Good attitude
    • Driving safety in mind

REMINDER: SCPOC has some minor rules regarding driving habits while on club function drives. Safety is EXTREMELY important. You may have some stints of hard driving here and there but nothing over the top. The majority of the drive will be at a reasonable speed for the course and a minimum safe following distance between cars will be enforced. The maximum speed limit on ACH is 55 mph and believe me, this limit is fast enough for the majority of these turns; there will be NO excessive driving permitted.

Hope to see you all there!

i thought about having this on the 15th, but if people are requesting time off, it would be easier just to have it the next day, sunday the 9th.

sorry about that everyone. didn't know there was a family event the day before. just found out last night and it was confirmed this morning.

so that means you can go rami!

Hmm didn't know about this until dmark mentioned it in my "probe story" post. Although I don't have a probe I have a pretty long history with em and my recent probe experience has revived my interest now. I have a motorcycle with a go-pro video camera can I tag along? ill record everything for the probetalk community. Oh and I have to refuel about every 80 miles (my bike is small) I hope that wont be a problem. what is the total distance of the cruise?

the angeles crest high way is 66 miles total, so u need to make sure you are topped off when we start and u will get a chance to refill when we reach the end.
