  • Please check my timing!

    Hey guys:

I am hoping that you veterans out there can tell me if my timing is off. I just bought this KLZE and I want to be extra sure that the timing belt is installed correctly. Everything looks okay to me except the front cam sprocket. It seems to be a little off, but I'll defer to you.

    Here is the crank sprocket:

    And the rear cam sprocket:

And finally the front cam sprocket:

    I seriously appreciate your help!

To me, both of them look a smidge out (they both look advanced just a touch), but I would spin it around a couple times to see if the slack would work itself out and you would be alright.

I'm just sooo used to using the dual dots on the rear cam that line up with the valve cover....using that single one doesn't look right to me.

Looks like your belt's kinda frayed on the edge in spots. Any issues with the belt "walking" while its running? As for the timing, that really is as good as its gonna get. Are you having any problems with it running or just curious?

I haven't fired it up yet (it's out of the car.) I checked the timing alignment with my DE motor, and it seems to be in line with the DE's timing marks. It's just not -exact- which bothers me slightly. I played around with it last night and moved it around slightly. This particular situation is the best.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

hey guys question, I had the motor apart and its now going back together. Aglened the cams like the book said. Alls well both stubs on cam line up with head mark. However when i put the R gear on the R and dot do not line up unless i turn the cam. Normal? if some one would tell me how to post a pic i could show u.

looks good, crank it over manually a few times to see if it stays. i always start the engine for about 10 seconds at this time.

does the klze's timing belt setting differ from the DE's? im swapping from a de to a ze and i never checked the timing marks on the de. What i did notice is that the ze's gears are not flipible like the de's. also i lined up the cams like the book said. the gear locating pins need to line up with the timing mark which makes the 2 yellow strips on the mesh gears line up. Everyone still follow? I put the L gear on alls well, i go to put the R gear on and the R gears dot doesnt line up. I need to move it clock wise to line up, is this normal? the book doesnt mention this.

                        ???

can anyone verify this as gright or wrong? is that how its should be?
