  • Man. This used to be a happening place and now it’s about dead. Guess with all the new cars and technology people have moved on to bigger and better things. Met some cool cats on here and the memories shared will not be forgotten.

Facebook's taken quite a toll on forums as well. It doesn't do nearly as well at storing collective wisdom as a forum with a proper search engine (or even one with a half-broken search engine), but I guess it's the low barrier to entry that makes Facebook groups so popular. Kids these days...

              • I know - the supply of Probes has been drying up too. But a lot of the message boards we sponsor have been hit pretty hard by Facebook competition, even for more popular cars.

Another factor that thankfully didn't hit ProbeTalk has been Autoguide / Verticalscope buying up a bunch of forums. I suspect their real business model is to suck the life out of forums they buy and sell the life to celebrities looking to prolong their acting careers.

                • Old timer here, so old that my old profile of ProbeGT-R has been deleted. So I just rebooted version 2.0. I may get back into probes someday if I can find a solid one. I sold my beloved 94 GT back in 2003. Stupid decision, looking back on it. I miss that car.

                  • Pretty sure I qualify as an old timer here too. Have owned my PGT for about a quarter century now and she'll be officially 30 years old early next year. Both 1st and 2nd gens are nowhere to be seen here in the northeast these days.

Some may remember the Car Allowance Rebate System ("CARS", aka "cash for clunkers") government program back in ~2009 when the economy and car sales were tanking - I think that program ended up taking most of the remaining probes (that were on life support) off the road.
1989 Ford Probe GT stock turbo, HKS I/C Pipes, SBC TZ clutch, KVR cadmium/slotted rotors & pads, SMC SS brake lines, K&N filter, intake silencer-delete, A/C-delete, FSTB, Probesport RSTB, Probesport STS, custom mandrel stainless exhaust with Magnaflow muffler and highflow cat, Tokico "blues", Eibach Pro Kit, Yokahama Avid H4's on 17" Enkei TBS-11's, Raxles axles, Energy Suspension endlinks, ARP cyl head stud and exhaust manifold stud conversions

                    • Ugh, 17 years, 2 months and only 37 posts... But does it count that I still own the car?

I don't think Damon/dmark101 or Stacey/Racy-Stacey would let that happen. I'm glad the PT family is still together!

I feel the same way about my PGT #1. I used to give people advice about never selling theirs, and I ended up doing it. And regretting it. Probably the biggest regret of my life.

i have definitely seen the downward spiral of the probe/mx-6 related facebook groups. most of those kids just want to be spoon fed information, instead of taking advantage of a great community and the resources contained within.

with that said, it's actually a shame that more people here don't participate on our facebook page.

that is incorrect. your original name was deactivated due to a bad email address. so many people neglect to update their email addresses on message boards whenever they change them.

you could have simply sent me an email through the board or contacted me on our facebook page. heck, today i had someone contact me through my club's website to get their user account activated.

                          there is always a way.

i was actually approached by this group back when they were actively snatching up forums like ours. i was very saddened when mx6.com was acquired by them.

we've had a lot of rough patches over the years. i am very grateful to those loyal to the car who have stuck with us. i really wish we could have done more, but i'm happy we're still here.
ProbeTalk is BACK! Once again, it's what you use the Internet for!

                          Let's get DANGEROUS!

                            • I found myself buying up cars just to hoard some parts. I have 3 atm. I just need to decide what to do with it all.

The car definitely gets comments at the autox, even with the clear burnt off.

                              • Yep, and when I had my 3 PGTs people who didn't know cars that well thought they were either Vettes or Ferraris. The styling is still fresh!
