Try cleaning out your disty, by disassembling it, and cleaning the sensors with some cleaner like this from "Radio shack" http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=64-4345
And clean the disty housings case with a little bit of Carb cleaner & Rag, let dry before assembling it back together.
Crank positon sensors can throw codes because of dirt on them.

would you recommend taking the CPS #2 out (two screws) to clean it. I cleaned them while still attached with electrical connectioncleaner and small brush but am still getting the code. running well, no missing. you also mentioned setting the timing to 9, which is the stock setting, but I have not tried this yet.

Yep thats what i meant by disassembling it , take everything out.
Yep the Timing should be set with a Timing gun at 9.
Usually if you cleaned them well, and you still get the code, try cleaning the connector pins in the distributor plug, that plugs into the wiring harness.
Still get the code after that replace the distributor. Sensor is no good.
