    why is my amplifier fuse melting?

    Is the amp rated higher than the wiring is? That's most likely the cause, maybe more resistance and heat from a crusty old wire. Is your car a 94 in Portofino blue?

      I buddy of mine his car some years back had a similar problem where his power wire started melting down, it ended up being a spot in the wiring where it was ran rubbed through and was grounding. Although it was a pretty sudden problem and affected a lot of the wire, not just the fuse area. As blue stated above that will do it too for sure. Few things to check.

        I found part of the end I connected to a smaller wire, it had melted a part together with the ground wire
        guess it was grounding there

          as mentioned above, the fuse is too large for the wiring and im also 99% sure its a poor connection to melt there, the screw cap probably came loose and caused an intermittent connection which arc'd causing the heat to make the plastic to melt, if you replace it with a new one with a lower rating it should be fine.
