  • King6 manual timing belt tensioner reviews please????

    Hey everyone,

Went to the dyno today in my street car, over a 150 mile drive.. Wanted to test out the new tri flow turbo cams with the race gas on a good tune.. Made 3 good passes, best run was 418hp and 429tq at 13.5 psi with 23 degrees timing.. Then on the 4th pass on the dyno at about 6500rpm i heard a huge BOOM noise lol, checked timing and the damn belt slipped on the rear head.. Engine seems to be fine but im pissed because i couldnt finish tuning.. So im wondering about the king6 manual tensioner.. Has anyone ever had any problems with them? Who all is running one now??

Can't speak for the king6 one, but I made one out of my blown out stocker. I just followed Travis Williams how to thread and it works great.

Have you ever had to re-tighten it?

I would stick with hydraulic.. I do NOT like the manual tensioners. Our motors need that hydraulic adjustment.. Because there are different points of slack/tension in the powerband.. The best way I can describe it..

          My opinion.

I put a king6 one on mine and it worked good. I did have to tighten it a bit after a couple hundred miles. The craftsmanship of it isnt the greatest but it does the job. The stock hydraulic one gave me issues with too much belt slack, but i did have interprep springs.

i am moving this thread to this forum: Product Reviews.

this is where things like this should be posted. it would also be great if the person whose product is being reviewed were actually a vendor here.

I've had interprep springs for a long while now, the higher lift cams probrably also had something to do with it lol. Anyone else care to share?

i also built my own out of a stocker.... very simple and very effective.
                    Turbo'd 94 Mx6 12.87 @ 115 on 5 psi.
Built by Me, eBay and zip ties.
96 White M-Edition mx6 Being built with above's parts, just less tip ties and sketchyness.

Thumbs up! No problems. Beefier than the home conversion. I think the quality is very good. Keep timing belt where it needs to be.

Note: I did not have to retighten...the jam nut works well....however, i am only running stock cams/springs...but I were to guess, I would have to say it would it would workk well with high lift cam springs.

How long have you been using it and how many miles have you put on the engine since installing it? The only reason I'm considering the king6 is because it says no modification is necessary. If I make one out of a stocker I gotta knock some excess material off the oil pump which I really don't wanna do right now. Anyone else here running the king6 tensioner??
