  • Has anyone KL swapped one of these yet?

I came across something in this old article. Apparently the Mercury Capri was 323 based. Instantly wondered if it would fit. Also 323F/Lantis lights would be cool to see in America. The article...

The Capri that I was familiar with was the Ford 2.8L V6 version which looked similar to the second pic in the link. It had one of the best 60 deg V6's ever -at that time. The engine was essentially the same casting as the Cosworth V8 minus two cylinders in the casting.

When they re-cast it as a V6 -they even left the hump on the side of the engine block that used to be the bore for the counterbalance shaft. And because it was related to the V8 -you could buy many high performance parts for it at that time.

When I went over to England while in the USAF in the late eighties -they were still producing them to look exactly like they looked here in the 70's. And there was an entire racing circuit for Capri cars.

I don't think I have ever seen that slant nose Japanese looking version before. So do you have one of those?

No, I don't have one of them. The last one I saw was broken down on the side of the freeway. They are out there though. I don't think they are particularly attractive. It is a convertible and I don't think there are any other 323 based cars that are convertible, also 2423 lbs..

I used custom CV axles from Driveshaftshop.com so I keep the factory control arms and not worry about the axles breaking from 500hp. You can however also swap the MX-3 GS lower control arms to use the MX-3 GS cv axles, but your tires will stick out about an inch further, and alignment will need to be fixed. You will have wider stance in front and narrow stance in rear. It will look awkward. If serious I do have the MX-3 crossmember sitting around in my garage because I made my own to accommodate a turbo kit, I'll ship it out to you for whatever it costs to ship, roughly $25 maybe.

I'm more likely to do an Escort, but I have no plans at the moment, (too many non running cars currently in the driveway. I do appreciate the offer on the part. I'll keep it in mind if an Escort comes along and I can't say no.
