  • valve cover gasket....any good?

So autozone/advance auto want 90.00 for a kit which would take care of both sides. I decided to look around and found this....bad idea?

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Magnum-VS25030-MaxDry-Valve-Gasket/dp/B007VYHHOA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381137006&sr=8-1&keywords=ford+probe+valve+gasket"]Amazon.com: Magnum VS25030 MaxDry Valve Cover Gasket Set: Automotive[/ame]

what else would i need besides this?

I would go with OEM, FEL-PRO, or Victor Reinz. Every cheap set I ever used has leaked, even when i used a ton of RTV.

Just bought both sides from Mazda for $85. Supposedly they are the best.

Okay good to know...I thought 90 was high from what they said at autozone and places like that...but I guess that's the going price ..seems kinda ridiculous for some flimsy peice of material Lol but I'd rather it be done the right way then have to redo it.

fel-pro makes the orange silicon gaskets around the same price. wayyy better then the stiff black ones, and reusable!

all valve cover gaskets for these are reuseable.....theyre rubber.

^ False. Lots of the earier ones are the hard black, brittle material that deteriorates. The newer updated ones are the orange silicon gaskets that dont stiffen up

never seen an orange one ever and the black ones are indeed rubber tho. they get hard and brittle when theyre old. if you ever get the orange ones id like to see pictures because like i said i have never seen them.

For the record went with felpro and its been almost three weeks and no sign of leakage ...so far so good...just wanted to give an update. I only did the front valve gasket cause I'm a bit hesitant to dig into the back being and somewhat of a n00b and doesn't the intake manifold have some kind of seal on it as well which would need to be removed and replaced to get to the back valve cover?

If it's not leaking why mess with it? The rear vc that is.

They are soo damn expensive for my taste, i just prefer to scour the yards for orange gaskets and the good thing is they are free.
