Has anyone come up with the minimal vacuum requirements for these cars yet? So many old threads about those dang vacuum chambers....

If you ditch the VRIS, all you need is 1 line to the fpr.

Yeah that's what I did. No vacuum chambers, VRIS, or EGR.

Looking good. I like the color scheme. I thought if you ditched vris without megasquirt or some other tuneable ecu you would lose performance. Really I thought you'd lose performance even with a tunable ecu without vris.

It IS more beneficial to have a properly set up VRIS. Mine was already leaking, and I was deleting the egr anyways.

I would check the crankshaft position sensor and for spark from the distributor. And follow up with megasquirt with a file of your outputs.

Don't forget you HVAC line! Also for vacuum you can Tee off of the HVAC chamber on the passenger side. You just need to add a check valve.

If you are really going for a "cleaner look" drill out all the vacuum nipples you don't want and thread in plugs of some sort.

As for VRIS, depending on your use case for the car deleting it can be helpful. You lose mid range, but you can gain top if you gut the inside. Depending on level of ambition, you can cut the top of the intake off and remove the divider/port to your hearts content.

If you have an early probe, you can also block the extra PCV connection coming from the valve cover, they did this on the later cars. I'd personally keep PCV intact.

Dang, got ya. You mean gut the inside of the Vris sensor?
How did you find out if it would need a check valve? I put mine back to its original spot, but was curious none the less.
I do like the idea of cutting off the extra ports.
Oddly enough you know that little hose on the front VC, I had two , one was " a hose" the other was a dummy, everything hooked up the same tube and all but the hold was plugged up.

In the vertical shot, you should be able to see the ground.

So on the earlier probes there was a PCV hose that wrapped from the front and went directly to the manifold. Depending on the year of your manifold the nipples are different. If you get a later valve cover the connection is not there.

As for vacuum, I am saying remove the nipples on your intake manifold if you are really looking to go for some fresh look. It looks cleaner than the rubber caps all over.

The reason you need a check valve, is at WOT you can drop vacuum low enough for the VRIS actuators to close. The check valve prevents the vacuum chamber from losing vacuum.

I can mark it up in paint. But that container behind the passenger strut tower is a chamber for your HVAC controls. You can T off of that and put a check valve in line with it to the VRIS Solenoids.
