  • Colt Cam - 1st Gen Feeler thread

    Hey Guys,

    This is a quick feeler thread regarding a 1st Gen Bulk buy starting in November. Now in the past their has been some interest in 1st gen cams. I for one have been interested in their cams for some time. Not too long ago I was able to try one of Colt Cams - Tri-flow cams. The power gain from stock is really nice. It feels very stock on the lower end but wakes up as the revs increase.

    I was really interested in how the tri-flow cam worked and what kind of power gains could be achieved. I was very happy with the results. The Tri-flow cam in my Naturally aspirated engine was a notable increase from the Crower stock grind cam I had been using.

    Geoff and Colt Cams is willing to run a Bulk Buy for 3 types of 1st gen grinds.
    All three can be used in a Turbo or N/A engine with no extra tweaking.


    1. A performance Cam that will yield around 20HP on 11lbs boost.
    2. A Tri-Flow cam like the one I talked about above. I would say without dynoing this cam that it puts out about 15-20hp in a stock N/A engine and about 25hp-30hp in a modified engine (est.)
    3. Full Race Cam for the 1st gen - If you drag race your car or do any type of oval track or just want your engine to sound highly modified, this may be the cam for you. Don't plan on getting good gas mileage with this cam, this is all power. 193deg @ .50/ 275 deg adv. and 200 deg @ .50/ 280 deg adv.
    Wow this is a hot cam for a 1st gen.

    Lets see if we can get some 1st genn'ers interest. You know we all have been waiting to get some love for our cars for a while now.

        any idea on pricing yet? are we talking cheaper then the other options already out there? if so, i might def be interested.

          Are these all just regrinds? Or will the "race cam" be a welded unit?

          What's the projected pricing?

                I guess i'm just not understanding how the "race cam" could really be such if metal is being taken AWAY from the cam.

                Iono.

                Any idea what the "race cam" should do to a curve? How much more power can we expect? If it's a "race cam" aftermarket management should be used, yes?

                  Pricing will be around $165 - $250 for the full race cam. But these are only estimates as you all know direct pricing is not allowed in feeler threads.

                  As for regrinds, I do not know how they make these cams but I would assume they would add material to the cam core then run it through a turning machine to the proper specs.

                  If you put a race cam in your car you really should upgrade your engine management. Ie. MSD ignition min. or even Mega Squirt at the top end of things.

                    Well from what Tremex just told me, they remove material from the base circle to get the extra lift, they cant weld extra metal as they are Cast? I still dont understand it but searching the web yielded the same explanation.

                      omg! omg! omg! im interested haha but ok i havent done much research into cams lets say for my 89gt what do you guys recommend? The only future plans are just trying to chip it and maybe Tbird hybrid turbo, i really wanted to get a laptop soon but if it has to wait ill make it wait for the cams.

                        whats the lift on the race cam and how much do we need to shim out our hla's or will shims come with the cam?

                        Let me get this right its
                        INT. Deration is 275 @.050 is 198
                        EXT. Deration is 280 @.050 is 200

                        also is it possible to get the lift @ the valves.
