I am trying to finish up a semi-major re-wiring on the car at the moment. I decided to remove the connector that the engine harness joins up to over near the front of the right side fender-well and just above the frame rail. I can't remember the connector number at the moment. -But it contains wires for fuel pump, A/C fans, DRL Relay and headlights out to HL relay.
This smaller split off from the main engine harness joins up with the harness that crosses over under the upper frame bar in front of the radiator and rejoins the main harness that comes through the left side wall in front of the relay box.
Since I do not believe in PTG A/C -there is no reason for it to wrap all the way around the engine bay to get over to the relay box. I am running the wires straight through the engine bay harness over to the relay box. This way there is no split off the engine harness at the firewall that goes to the passenger side. It will only make a direct turn at the firewall towards the engine bay relay box.
I never understood anyway -why it needed to wrap all the way around the engine bay in the first place. Even if you did want to run A/C -aren't the fans and associated wiring as well as the other wires a more direct shot going only one way (half way) around the engine bay?
There are some grounds in the rear of the car or some other wires that I remember wrapped all the way around the rear portion of the car instead of just going one direction. Is there a purpose to wiring things this stupidly?
Oh -and to think how much money they might have saved (and weight) in copper wiring if they would have just used chassis grounds rather than running so damned many ground wires to the rear of the car. They are just lighting grounds. It isn't like they are engine sensor shielded grounds or something! If you were trying to make a lightweight race car -you could probably save 10 lbs alone by just using chassis grounding points.Last edited by KLZE Porsche; February 15, 2017, 10:54 AM.Success is a measure of determination!

I figured it is time to do a small update to this thread. I am about to drop the engine in and the car should be complete fairly soon. I am very excited. I have been restricted to a slushbox Probe for far too long now and I seriously miss the 5-speed PGT fun.
I may have posted some of theses pics elsewhere in other threads -and so I am consolidating. This was the firewall repair and sound deadening material installation:

KLG4 sensor drilled onto rear head. Different CPS or crank key way? Not sure what's going on there. Great looking engine and trans... is there a JDM LSD in there? I'm thinking there is in this Opus.Probe out for Harambe

Fantastic work! That engine is just beautiful...
I forget or maybe it was never stated; what's the intent with this car? The ample usage of sound deadening suggests immaculate daily driver.Beautiful Beast- 1997 PGT in process of becoming an SC/NA Beast...

I now work from home and so I have no commute other than fetching groceries once and a while or running to the auto parts store. And my wife bought a 2012 MT Mazda 3 -which is a total gas miser. She tried learning to drive the MT a few times and has about given up trying. I think she also decided that she likes the more equipped Mazda 6 with auto and so she may be looking to change and give the 3 to me. So my probes have become purely entertainment driving machines.
The ample usage of sound deadening is because I like to hear more music than road noise. I have another probe which is a lightweight version and sans sound deadening.
It is almost ready to drop in. I just have to go back over the bolts once again to check to make sure I haven't forgotten to torque one or two. The last thing I need is for a camshaft pulley to fall off with the engine running.
I have had problems in the past with the cold air intake chaffing on the starter and so this time I have anchored it to the starter with a piece of old primary coolant hose cut then slit and wrapped part way around the starter motor for cushioning and zip-tied it in place. Then I anchored the cold air tubing in place against the rubber with more zip ties around it and going through one of the ones on the starter. I cinched them up good and now the CAI is anchored well in place.
