  • Looking for car suggestions

Anywhere between $1k and $5k. I'm not selling my Probes, I just have to stop trying to daily one without a backup. 2 door, 4 door, FWD, RWD doesn't matter. It can't be from GM, no Civics please. I've looked up some Mazdas. I don't know, I just want something unique, but not cardboard body kit unique. Millenia S seems foolish (lack of s/c experience and likely issues,) 626 would feel like I got a 3rd Probe (feeding the addiction.) Thought I might get some interesting ideas here.

Lexus SC400 for 300k engine life -but not for gas mileage unless 13-15 mpg works for you. And if you get a 4 speed auto -the off-the-lne acceleration sucks. Newer 6 speed autos are supposed to be better on the accel -but don't know about the mpg.

Back in 98 I worked at a Goodyear store, pulled in a SC300 for an oil change, apparently little old lady owned. Neat buzzing sounds started happening on start up as everything began moving... almost re-enacting the scene from "Christine" where the car kills the guy by squishing him with the front seat and steering wheel. Still on the table though. All good suggestions so far. It may just come down to whatever drops in my lap at the time with the right price.

I'm kind of diggin the Audi A6 right now. awd, 250 hp. i think i'm going to be getting one here shortly. i'm looking at 05-08 for around 7k but you can get the 01-04 for like 2-3k.

And then hey, if you get real bored down the line, you can just cut the body off the Audi and weld your Probe body to it like the guy on youtube did to make his twin turbo awd Probe lol.

What do you guys think about Volvo, 5 cylinder, something with a turbo? That was a great build with the Audi. Did that ever get finished?

I just bought a Toyota matrix XRS as a winter beater, within that price range, toyota dependability, 2zzge engine (180hp 8250rpm redline) 6spd, comfortable, space to haul shit and doesn't handle half bad. Makes a nice little hum too. Parts are cheap. I looked at all kinds of stuff, also played the Subaru game but this car just made sense.

One YouTuber I talk to has a Probe or 2 and an XRS. He was just porting his exhaust manifold for the XRS. Revs into the stratosphere. I saw a WRX with relatively low mileage for $1500 300hp dyno sheet with it, I think that would be a better fit for me. It's the boxer sound otherwise 4 cylinders just don't do it for me. I missed my KL even when I was whipping my 4AGE

That seems really cheap for a WRX, I'd look that over real carefully before buying.

IKR. I haven't talked to the seller yet (not ready to buy yet,) but I've been thinking of questions to ask. I expect something to be broken or worn, but it looks damn good and is a repaint. It could be the seller's location making it a hard sell. Worst case scenario it eats a diff or trans or engine or turbo in a short time and the replacement of one of those would bring it up to the price I'd expect to pay. I didn't see whether it was in a wreck before, but clean title means it's not a salvage as well as the financial side. I'd honestly be okay if it needed something.

Update: 2 WRXs slipped through my fingers both incredible prices. I was looking at Golfs and Jettas, VR6 and MTX of course. Nothing really popped and most want too much money. Volvo 5 cyl turbos, so far didn't find the right mileage/price/options combination yet. There is one more make and model I've been looking at. So far, the first owner took 3-4 days to repsond, and 24 hours for each subsequent response after. The 2nd owner, no reply at all. The 3rd is talking about shipping through ebay for a car advertised locally on craigslist. A bit Prince of Zamunda if you ask me. This last car type is the one I want the most and will remain top secret until a deal is struck with a normal owner. If that ever happens, I will post pics, maybe even sound clips. I did see a Matrix XRS, but it would basically empty my pockets for what they were asking.

I stopped counting scams and purchase failures by Friday. Good news though. I got a good deal on a probable vehicle to flip. 02 Grand Marquis, 91k miles, $900. It's got a couple of dings, had to fix a ball joint today to get the car off the ground, but that's why it was so cheap. Decent leather, landau top in black, silver body. 4.6l 2v v8. Should clean up nice.

Ha ha, I didn't want a boat at all. I'll repeat though, $900 for a 91k mile car. I've driven one of these before, and believe it or not, enjoyed it. So I can have a little fun with it, then flip it. It's already worth twice what I paid getting it off the ground. That can go back into the car fund when I sell it.
