  • HOW TO: Change a defaulty voltage regulator

shipped from USA, bought it from rockauto, for 18USD:

The ALT removed and split in two, 4long bolts (10 or 8mm bolts on the outside):

After cleaning, the voltage regulator is attached with two screws:

And the two connections has to be solder off:

    The regulator is out:

And the new one is installed, reverse off what i just did. And dont forget the little steel thread (the red one on the pictures) too hold the bruches in place or whats it called, when you put it together

DONE, just mount it on the engine and you should read around 14-14,7V when engine on.

If you are going through all of that trouble, just take it in and have it rebuilt. Worth every penny for peace or mind.

      Great job & Great pics
This is more of a peace of mind knowing you fixed it yourself, what a shop would charge alot more to fix. And the work is gauranteed
It was pretty much straight forward as It showed in the manual.

Was the outside of your alternator covered in oil before you cleaned it?

The job was surpriseingly easy and pretty much what you mentioned from the manual when we talked about it with hotrodtom.

The oil is from a bad valve cover gasket, so good too know thats cleaned up outsiden and inside too now. My voltmeter reads 14,2V with some ACC on, not bad for the orginal ALT. i think
