  • Why I keep my Ford Probe

This is my 2013 Ford Focus ST after 47K miles

This is my 96 Ford Probe after 315K Miles....

My 93 PGT came out of a junkyard neededing a trans and had 2 inches of water sitting in the floor pans with busted out quarter windows. Sat for 2 years like that before I got it. NO RUST on the floor pans or anywhere else. Oh and by the way...just turned 325K miles!!!!

Yes the Probe will rust like any other car if the paint and primer are removed and left that way but for a new car to do this from the inside out is unacceptable.

Before anyone says anything...It is futile (believe me I have tried). Ford will NOT help due to being over 3yr 36K miles despite the fact that every body shop tells me this rust started long before the Bumper to Bumper Warranty was out. Because I have the maintenance plan the Dealership is mostly the only ones under the hood. Once the bubbling paint was caught this was how far the rust had spread. This amount of rust looked like this before I dug into it.

Shame on you Ford! Good luck with your future. My 21 year old car is holding up much better than my 4 year old car.

580 dollars to fix my hood. If anyone has any pull with Ford let me know. I really expect that they should at least help me with the expense of having their obvious defect repaired.

Probes are galvanized. I've had my 94 sitting outside for 8 years in the rust belt and it still doesn't have a lot of rust. My 99 Cherokee though has a giant hole in the floor. 02 Grand Am had the sills rotting out, as well as brake and fuel lines. Back in 97 my folks picked up a Chevy Lumina. I found rust by the fuel door within the first 2 weeks. You can expect to see rust on even expensive Japanese cars as well. Sometimes it's luck of the draw. I've noticed more expensive Ford models tend to rust less. This would probably be my biggest concern if I were picking up a new Focus RS.

I had similar rusting on hood/hatch and doors of my fiesta St. It was "repaired" under warranty at 35K miles. A good friend of mines 8 month old fiesta also has similar rusting after one winter and 8k miles.
