As long as you are "SURE" there is nothing else holding it to anything.......

Get another Pry bar, get help & get pulling.
Been there, done that. I couldn't get it out entirely even with a prybar as the pilot bearing was complete (itself) and siezed to the input shaft of the transmission.

Instead, I pulled the starter and unbolted the pressure plate with the closed end of a wrench... turning the motor to get to each one. Took about 10 minutes once I got to the decision that was the only possible item left.

And yes, it'd be at least a good 1/2" off all the way around. If it's not, you've left something in or it's somehow siezed to an alignment pin.

    • Transmission Pic

Hey Dorkasaurus, here's a pic of the transmission off of the car. You can see exactly where the bolt holes are. I hope you don't mind me putting a pic in your thread Travis, here it is.

      http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?i...1090420gk5.jpg

Edit: There's one bolt hole hidden behind the end of the black piece of tape at the 8:00 position.

      • Reading the bolt sequence and seeing the picture is helpful but I just realized this thread is v6, I have an i4. It's dark out and I've given up for the day but the bolt patterns don't seem the same. I'll try again tomorrow. If the bolt count is the same on the i4 then I've missed a 17mm somewhere around 2 o'clock near my starter (or that's my guess anyway, since transmission seperates near the front of car and underneath "ok" but seems stuck by starter). Also, car is rust free and all bolts are look shiny and new so I don't think it's a seized alignment pin. That pic of transmission is ruuuuuuusssssstyyyyyyy compared to my desert dweller. Thanks for the help.

        • Yes, it was stated earlier.....the 4 cly is different. I can tell you that the starter has to be removed all the way.....if you have not already done that.

That is the only odd thing I can remember of my ONLY4 cyl endeavor years ago.

          It was not fun.

I envy you for not hating repairing any Probe. I'm used to older simpler cars and every time I have a serious job to do on my Probe it taxes my patience and takes 10x longer than I'm accustomed to.

Yeah it makes sense now. I'm sure there's still a starter bolt in since I haven't removed the starter. Somehow after going over thread I forgot the v6 starter is on the transmission side and can come out with it but mine is on the engine side... this is typically how my Probe repairs go.

yeah basically. its not that hard, just remove everything attached to the transmission, drop it out, replace the clutch, and reattach everything. refill fluid if you drained it.

don't be scared of doing your own clutch.

                        • I'm contemplating doing my own clutch replacement because of some outrageously high quotes out here. What tools exactly are required for this job?

                              Jack w/ 20"+ lift
Jack stands you'd trust your life with
                              Hammer
                              Chisel
3/8 driver metric ratchet set (deep socket) from 8mm to 21mm.
10" ratchet extension (mini breaker bar when used with socket on ratchet handle)
needle nose plyers w/ long handle
                              14mm, 17mm, & 23mm ratchet wrench (box end / open end spanner)
Funnel w/ 18" tube for fluid refill, size appropriate to drain plug thread

                              That's about it.

                              • the only pain in the ass part is having an extra jack or something to hold the motor up when the trans is off when its dangling on the timing side mount only
