  • So you want to replace your power window/lock light?

First of all take your door panel off.
(If you can't do this then your best off leaving this kind of maintanance to the pros)
    http://www.besh.com/~brad/panel.jpg

Flip over the door panel and remove the control modual by unscrewing the 2 screws above and below the modual.

    http://www.besh.com/~brad/controls.jpg

Now on the back of this part there is a hole and in that hole is a small black circular plug with a slot in it. This is the back of the light bulb.
    http://www.besh.com/~brad/backcontrol.jpg

Insert a flat head screwdriver into the slot and turn it a quarter circle counterclockwise.
This will free the bulb and socket

After I removed the "blue condom" as it's been called. I can see that my bulb here is very much burnt out.

Tommrow I'll go to a Radio Shack and see if they have a bulb that will fit this socket for me.

Now on to the light in your keyhole!

I tried to get to the light inn the back of my keyhole while I had to door panel taken apart.
    http://www.besh.com/~brad/door.jpg
I can see the back of the lock and the power/ground wires going to the light socket.
    http://www.besh.com/~brad/lock.jpg

But I couldn't find a way to get the socket off the lock to get access to the light bulb.
    Any idea would be great.

you can remove the lock/window assembly by prying up on the back edge CAREFULLY, but removing the panel involves much less risk in breaking it.

im not sure abou the door lock light though, i never really looked at it. mine just hangs in my door since i had my locks shaved.

There's a clip on the left side of this solenoid (towards the lock latch): http://www.besh.com/~brad/lock.jpg

You can reach in there and feel it.

The second pic you are showing is for the alarm wire, not the light. If I remember the light went in from the bottom, and I did find a bulb at radio shack, I had to cut the wires on the old one, and just soldered on the new. I used a little shrink tubeing to cover the exposed wire .

                Radio Shack bulb part number

                272-1092C
There are two bulbs in the package. The blue stock rubber condoms CAN be transferred to them, but since these bulbs are smaller than the stock ones, they won't stay that easily. I just replaced the bulb without the blue thingy, and it works fine - the lighting is white but it does not bother me a little bit.

The only thing I used a soldering gun for was to melt the plastic, holding the thin wire still.
                      Wasn't even necessary, really ...

Get the bulbs at the junkyard people! They are the same ones that are in the switches for your foglights, rear wiper, etc. Ford will probably want an arm and a leg for these 5 cent bulbs.

At $1.58 inclusive of taxes, it was a cheap fix. Thank you.

I was so irritated that those lights weren't working.

After you remove the solenoid, you have to pull the lock retainer out (u-shaped clip).
Then remove the black rubber w/the bulb in it.

It does come out from the bottom, but you have to remove the solenoid & clip to get to it.

I thought the bulb was accessible after removing the solenoid, but I found out differently after I had to remove one of my locks the other day.

Do all the Probe GT's come with lighted power window and lock switches?

I was just wondering if all the Probe GT's came with the lighted power door locks and window switches? when i bought my car in August none of them were lighted so i just figured they didn't have bulbs in them? Just wondering if they all came with lighted switches? if thats the case then i must need new bulbs. I tried going to Ford to get the bulbs with the blue condoms on them for two of my dash switches but they said they can't get them? Maybe someone can hook me up?
Selling the Probe, anyone interested let me know. Looking for a Subaru WRX!!
