Hey Jeff was that a tranny from the Dual overhead cam engine or Single?

I just bought one from a DOHC engine. I'm going to order the 2nd and 3rd gears for the contour and see if they are interchangable.

Is the Contour tranny a G or an M series?

Very nice. I had found some simmilar info during my transaxle class this semester, I need to find my notes. I found an Izusu tranny that very well looked to have compatable gears, dimension wise atleast. They were all helical cut too.. so hmm. I have other transaxles listed out with gears that appear to be swapable, let me find me paperwork. The only issue that may exist would be the syncro hubs and sleeves not being compatable.. but we'll see.

I thought about it some, and I've thought that I would actually like to set up things with a longer first, and slightly longer for the rest of the gears. Traction is a problem for us with higher power, I am thinking that taking away alittle of the shortness of the gears may indeed prove to be quite helpful in keeping the wheels hooked. For an N/A build though yea, shorten 'em up a little more.

I think it would be cool to also lengthen them up, so that the car could be geared to hit 180mph under 7,000RPM in fifth. Think what you want, but it sounds exciting to me.

You'd need a lot more than stock horse power to get up near 180 mph since we're drag limited with 164 hp to about 130. Would be cool tho I'd like to see a video of that, haha.

I have a supercharged ZE, and I'm going to rebuild this spring for more boost - power isn't the issue here. Gearing and drag and creating enough down force to not fly away, however is another story. =)

I had my 95 PGT at 140mph on the stock speedometer a few days before the Head gasket blew so I know it'll go that fast but yes it would be nice to have taller gears for top speed but I think for road racing and Auto-X the lower 2nd and 3rd would be really nice. I'm going to order the 2nd and 3rd first and then I'm going to have the guy who's rebuilding the tranny for me see if it'll work.

I'll have the tranny next week and I'm going to order the synchros and parts for each gear I'm using from each transmission and we'll see what the shop says when they attempt to put it all together. If the gears aren't compatable from the Contour then I'm going to try the Focus and if the Final gear won't work then I'll use the Escorts 4.10 final.
The 4.10 will yeald a little bit higher speed but still should give us a better 2nd and 3rd gears which are the 2 I think need to be a little lower. 2nd is the big one where there's too large a gap between 1st and 2nd.

The only way to know what's compatable is to try it and see... Somebody needs to do it!!!

No the F2 n/a trannies are listed as "g series" in the mazda factory workshop manual. Thats why I asked if the internals would work. But yes f2t is h series.

How much would, say, ordering a few different gears and all necassary parts and then having them installed cost? That's my only concern.

Go to: http://www.signaturelm.com/frameset1...arts_wildcard1 and search for the different cars because they have the part numbers for all the Ford/Lincoln/Mercery cars. I found the Contour ones already and 2nd gear is $21.82 and 3rd is $29.98 or $108.70 but both part numbers say they are for the Contour and Focus all models so I'm going to order the $29.98 one and see if it's compatable and if not I'll just take it back.

You can look up any of the parts on that website and you can find out how much it'll cost to rebuild the tranny the way you want to!

Oh and I'm having a local shop do the work of installing the parts and rebuilding the tranny for $300. That's without installing the tranny in my car though.
