                Hi Mike,
I wonder if you received the Tri-flow cams that I sent you, with the one camshaft damaged?
They were sent on the 4th of September from New Zealand via air mail, straight to you address in Pinson, Alabama.
                Regards

From what I have seen on their site, the regular grinds increase the upper rpm power band but they can negatively affect the low end power range.

And the tri-flow helps avoid the lose of power in the lower rpm range while still supplying the increase in the upper rpm power range

                    Is that right?

Would they be good for turbo, or should I just get the turbo grinds?

My concern is I don't want to sacrifice/lose low end rpm power in order to gain upper rpm.
I'm running the tri flows, stock ECU, fidanza, probe gears and 225/45 17 tires and can still dog it around in 5th. Had them in for ~6 months or so now, and drive the car almost daily, and prolly still average ~28mpg, with a lot of 80mph cruising...I've been meaning to make a driving vid with them, but been lacking time for it lately...they are totally worth it, and would be picking up another set on this run, but timing is bad, maybe the next run...

I do have this vid, though, shortly after the battery was reconnected, so idle's erratic, the ECU does figure out the idle eventually, but takes it a few weeks...

                        Hi guys,
Just responding to people who wish to remove the gears from the cams.
This is not a difficult job, but if you don't have a hydraulic bench press, then I would not attempt this.
I have a 12 ton press, which is one of those cheaper types that have a car bottle jack for the ram that pushes down on a cross arm located between the two side vertical beam rails.
The base has a gap in the middle, which allows for the cam to sit down through.
The method is to heat the gear with a plumbers gas torch and within a minute, have the assembly in the press.
I used two pieces of 4x2 hardwood, flat on the base, side by side, with a 1 1/2" or abouts, hole drilled through on the line where the two pieces of wood touch, so each wood piece has a half circle cut through.
This allows 360 degree support for the gear, when in place.
I used a gas torch in a circular motion on the gear, just inside the teeth, but not near the cam. I did this for one minute on moderate heat, to get the temperature around 300F.
You can smell it when its getting hot!
Quickly place the assembly in the press, aligning the cam to the hydraulic ram plunger, ensuring that the gear has good contact with the wood base.
I had a 1/4" aluminium disc that sat on top of the cam which the plunger pressed down on.
Press down holding the cam with one hand, so it does not fall away, and the other hand actuating the hydraulic plunger.
With mine, it did not seem that much force was required, but it does make a sound when the cam is creaking out of the gear.
This is due the flex of the press, you build up pressure, then the cam moves a little then stops, and pressure builds up again, this repeats until the cam is released.
You will find that the gear will have imprinted itself into the wood, which is good as the load has been spread over a large area.
Remember, to hold the cam as it s driven out.
Be confident when heating the gear, do not leave it to long else the heat will migrate into the cam core, negating the operation.
Allow the gear to cool naturally in air.
When you get your cams back from Geoff, at Colt, looking all nice, new and sexy, like mine were, (they were KLZE cams), take to a machine shop and get them to press them on.
My press is not adaquate, and I was not patient and I pushed one gear past the stop.
The gear back stop ring on the cam is not substantial, and it is very easy to break this off. (I knew at the time I should not have attempted this...Doh..)
Mike Perry now has these cams.
Like I said, easy to get off , NOT to get back on.
                        Regards
                        Adam

All cams were supposed to be delivered to colt cams by today. I can check and see if they are going to be accepting them late or not but more than likely not. As I stated before I will talk to colt cams and see if another bulk buy in a few months will be ok with them. From past experience I dont see why itd be an issue. I think this bulk buy was so small because it was around the holidays. Other bulk buys ive helped with in the past were much bigger and a lot of other members have already showed interest in doing a bb some time within the next few months.
