Hey all.
So (by law) I had brought my 93 Probe SE in for a drive clean test in July... much to my surprise my car failed. The results for the 40 km/h test were:
HC PPM Limit: 66
reading: 65
CO %: 0.37
reading: 0.26
NO PPM: 505
reading: 949
So as you can see, I blew my NO test by quite a bit and my other values were JUST below. I went to the local ford center and had them do a range of diagnostics and they found a leaking water pump which they said would lead to over heating in the engine and thus raise NO levels. EGR operation and vacuum switches were ok but apparently one of the EGR vac ports at the throttle housing was blocked. I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of a car so alot of the EGR stuff is foreign to me but this is what was written on the report.
So I went ahead and replaced the water pump and timing belt which was the highest recommendation and redid the test once again. This time:
HC PPM Limit: 66
reading: 61
CO %: 0.37
reading: 0.36
NO PPM: 505
reading: 897
So while the HC reading went down, the CO reading went up. The NO did drop a little, it still failed thus failing the emission test.
My next step is to investigate this EGR issue, could any of you pros shed a bit of light on what I can do here? Is this just a matter of replacing something in the EGR system?
Thanks much to any help!
Fred
