  • Window tint

I've been thinking about tinting my windows. I've watched a YT video so I'm an expert now I want some opinions on whether I should go with legal levels of tint all around i.e. all windows the same, or, do the side and rear windows 5%, with legal tint level for the doors, and I'm not sure about doing the windshield at all. Either way it will be legal, just wondering if it will look bad with 2 different tint levels. My Cherokee has dark windows from the rear doors back, and I think it's factory, but different vehicles can get away with different looks.

I went with 20% on the windshield 10" down all the way across. (yes below legal limit) No other tint on my car.

The tint for me is for the looks. I'm looking for that dark continuous glass look. So far as visibility goes or interior heat, or security not so much. Also it's a curiosity. My parts car has tint and a black interior and it feels smaller on the inside than gray interior with no tint.

And RX-8 rims too! Any trouble with the doors being so dark?

I have a dynamic tint on mine. 15%in and 18% out on the front windows and 5%in and 8% out on the rear windows and rear windshield. I like it and don't have any problem. I like the privacy and the fact my car heats up A LOT less in the Summer. That 3% buffer is great and makes a big difference.

Really though its all about the tint you get. Some shops have dynamic tint and the buffer I was talking about. I'll see if I can get the brand the shop I had do mine at uses.

if you are doing it yourself for the first time, Just buy the cheapest stuff you can get. Your going to mess up and have to redo it by the time your done. I messed up every window but one doing it my first time. It didn't help i was doing it outside in the wind on a dusty gravel road. Don't do it outside in the wind and it will probably turn out better than mine lol.

g98swc do you have pics of the dynamic tint? J Unit, roger the not doing it outside in the dusty wind I'm really going to try and do it right the first time... the aforementioned YT video I watched showed a guy tint a Vette in about 17 minutes, complete. The method he used seems straight forward cutting the tint on the outside of the car, using the window matrix as a guide. The rest is not sticking it to the wrong things, a sharp blade, and a steady hand. I also have to find out if he was using soapy wooder or something else. But if you see a tragic story about a guy accidentally cocooning himself in auto tint...

Looks good. Anyone know which brands don't have a purple hue?
