                    those bolts really do nothing.
the ring gear is a pressed fit they heat the gear til it expands, then pressed over the fw centered, then cooled.

i'll grab a pic of a fidanza fw i had fixed my a friend who owns a machine shop. (where he builds connecting rods for Howards Cams)
my fw had a the ring gear spinning in place. now its held with 10 tapered locks.

I realize that they are shrink fit but I think it is still somewhat of a concern. But I won't worry about it unless it actually happens. I will have to re-wire the starter though to turn backwards.

so what are the chances/possibilities of an adapter plate?

Chances for an adapter plate are non-existant! The input shaft is already too short to hit a pilot bearing and an adapter plate that adds an inch or more would only move it even further away. This tranny is meant to hug up close! The Fiero guys just don't run a pilot bearing. But a lot of them also complain of excessive vibrations. Well Duh!

I just can't do that because -I like to do things the right way! My Quaife is on it's way here!
