  • Need clarification on Modifying Disty Cap

As the title says--I'd like some definite clarification. As I understand it, where I have circled is where the metal strip runs down the center of the cap. The orange circle is where I drilled-- however I'm not certain I came across any metal. I drilled a perfect hole smack dab in the middle of where I indicated. Was I correct In doing so? And also, the metal rod that comes out of the distributor cap will need to be removed and siliconed as well correct? The rest of the HEI mod seems rather straight forward. Thanks in advance. It's a 94 ZE with a DE disty.

That's the right place (as in right line from center out), but I think I drilled mine a bit closer to the #3 (in your pic). You should have seen some kind of metal as that's what will distribute the spark from the coil to each cylinder. And yes you'll need to silicone the back of the cap (where you drilled the hole) and around the msd tower on the outside to the cap.
