  • First Kill! WOOOO

    So, tonight about a half hour or so ago, i cruise into town about 15 mins away to get me some food. I run to burger king and get my stuff, and on my way out i see an eclipse pull into the drive thru area, he's giving me the stare down...i have no idea why...? stupid dsm guys.

    anyway, i get out onto the main road behind a huge truck from pennsylvania. in front of him is another big truck also from PA. they go really slow all the way through town and some DB in a firebird is riding my butt the whole way. we all finally get to the outskirts of town and get up to barely over speed limit. the firebird is swerving behind me the whole time mind you. there is oncoming traffic as far as i can see now, but i finally get an opening and pass one truck, then the other after a little bit. the firebird does the same, then he comes flying up on my butt, yet again.

    there are a few cars that go by, then i see him drop back a little then i see his headlights jump up because he got on it, so i decided to do the same just to see if i could keep up (i had never really raced against a decent car for competition in my probe yet). going about 65, i downshift into 4th and get on it hard. he gets up beside me pretty quick but he only got about a fender ahead of me from there i just slowly creep by him. i was probably going only about 5-6 mph faster than he was when i passed him up. i look down at my speedo and i'm doing around 115 haha. he pulled back behind me after being taught not to mess with a probe lol. i had to turn right, in a little bit and i see him follow me. i turned and then pulled into a gas station figuring he might follow me and talk a bit or w/e, but instead he floors it by me as i pull in...ooooohhh, im sooo impressed, i thought. oh well.

    i'm pretty sure he only had a v6 cuz if he didnt, i would have gotten smoked, but still...it was my first kill and im still happy about it!

            congrats on your first kill. why 4th gear @ 65mph? 65mph is at the very very top of 2nd (redlining) 65 is a PERFECT speed to hit 3rd in.

              oh iv raced plenty of my other cars. but the probe is by far the fastest iv owned. i bought it off craigslist about 2 months ago. its mostly been undergoing maintenance stuff before this.
              my second fastest is my 01' z24 cavalier...which i know most of you say are slow, and after driving the probe, i would have to agree lol

              my third gear linkage is messed up so i have to put it into second before it will let me in third at all. if i would have had it in third though, i doubt the firebird would have even lined up with me.

                So your saying that you are not able to downshift Into 3rd gear? If that is the case then it's your syncros because same thing happen to me and I just changed the transmission

                  i can downshift into 3rd, but i have to put it in second first. i dont have to let out the clutch when im in second, i just have to put it in, then i can immediately click into 3rd. its just more of a hassle than anything else.

                  i may just have to buy a different tranny, i know a lot of people on here say they dont last. except for a few exeptions, like goldmember's mx3

                    No that is exActly what I mean! Fom 5th gear you have to go down to second gear then to 3rd, which means you have a bad syncro! The 3rd gear is history for you! After racing a little more u will have no 3rd gear at all

                      i used to have a 93 ford escort gt that had the same problem...

                      great...looks like ill be needing a tranny before i put boost in this spring now. lucky i know a guy that will get one to me for $150

                        if you put it in neutral and hit the gas doesnt it line u the syncros, i thought? Might be faster than tossing it in 2nd first

                          i'll try that next time im cruising around. that would save me a lot of shift time. if that doesnt work, i'll just have to live with the whole 2nd to 3rd deal.

                            i have been living with the second to 3rd deal for few months, its really not a biig problem, but now its alot better, i bought a used tranny and had it put it and now its awesome!
