  • door panel upgrade

I'm trying to put 97 door panels in a 94. I got all associated brackets off the doner 97, but i've found that my 94 doors dont have holes in the same places as the 97, so the brackets won't fit. any suggestions? I see were many people have tried to do this.

    drill and tap as needed.

as for square holes if you need them , dremel & fiberglass reinforced cutoff wheel.

hey livemonj; do the 97 front panels match up, design-wise, with the 94 rear panels. I wouldn't think they do. I thought it was a easy pop swap between the years, now I see I gotta drill. bah!

Well, luckily here in houston at my local pick a part, probes seem to be abundant. Before purchasing these panels ($50 for both loaded with switches) compared them to a 94 in the yard. I guess that car had replacement doors or something.

i did the swap to my 93 and all i did was remove the bracket that screwed to the lil cup in the old doors on, then i installed the newer ones and everything lined up.So i then marked where i needed to drill holes for the new door handles, removed the doors drilled away, then put them back on.theyve been on for a yr and a half now without any issues.

wow you guys make me sound lazy. i installed the 97 panels in my 93 and just used teh plastic clips to hold it. the inner door handle screw (the one that opens the door). mine have yet to come loose and are holing without a problem. now mind you my doors are aligned right and there is no need to slam the door or pull hard on them to get them orshut. i drilled nothing.

so i say just pop them on using the plastic clips and if you have any problems with them coming off then just buy new plastic clips and your done.

did you just have to swap out the door harnesses , or did you have to swap the engine bay harnesses as well to get power windows?

i already had power windows when i did this swap to my gt and everything was plug n play. i also did this swap to a 93 base which has manual windows. for that swap i just used the newer se one piece door panels that came equipped with manual windows. thus i didnt have to convert the base to power windows.

I didn't have to do any wiring. So, Is it correct then that the door has to be drilled to put in the two screws that hold the "grab bar?"

yes but those screws are not needed as long as the plastic clips around the door panel edges are good.

this is true.i only did it cuz i had two new clips along the bottom below the grab bar that kept comming a lil loose and it was drivin me nuts, and just for the sake of my car not missing any clips or screws.(Im very anal about that)
but it only took like an extra 5mins and wasnt hard at all.

Are the 97 rear quarter panels(interior) the same as 93-95?

93/94 Rear Quarter/Speaker panels have the stripe from the door panels/dash continued. 95+ do not.

so when upgrading panels and regulators to power , do you have to rewire the door plug on both plugs?
