  • The SEA FOAM thread: Miracle engine additive??

Hey, I've got a 95GT and was wondering if you guy have ever used sea foam through a vacuum hose or not. I do it on my LT1 powered Camaro Z28 and it really helps smooth out the car. Anyone ever done this before, if so and you have pictures...let me know. I've got a lifter that is tap tap tapin away and it is really pissing me off!!! Any help, let me know!!!!!

i havent used it on a probe, but ive used it on several cars...

and we have a similar product at my work that does the same thing..

double check that its safe for F/I use

    if so, then go ahead..

    and yes, it works well

(ps, prob wont stop that lifter tap tho)
In our memories, he lives. Janusz we will miss you

Well, none the less it should quiet it down some. It did for my Z. And, it should clean it out anyhow....so why not!!?? Any suggestions for the suspected lifter tap??

          sea foam

What is it? And, what does it do?

There are just too many things I don't know or haven't heard of.

the KL engine doesnt have lifters, the tap you're hearin are the HLA'a (hydraulic lash adjustors) try a kerosene flush to clean all the passages then use a good synthetic oil.
            No probe anymore.

I tore off my im when i first got my car and it was gunked to holy hell....both intake and the runners in the head.

used sea foam 2 times over the next year through the pcv vac line to the tb.....

Next time manifold comes off I see CLEAN METAL on both the heads and the intake runners.

As well if you read the tsb for carbon knock on 93's and 94's this is the suggest fix

                Sea Foam Decarb??

I bought a can since everyone at napa swares by the stuff. They dont really list any directions on the can other than something about using vaccum lines. How exactly does that work?? I would assume you take one of the large intake vaccum hoses and just put it inside the can of fluid. It also says you can put it in your gasoline and oil too, Im confused. What do you do and where do you put it??? Any more info would be great! Thanks - Dan

                  Re: Sea Foam Decarb??

Sticking a vacuum line into it wouldn't be a great idea. Too much ingested and the engine will hydro-lock. The best de-carbs are the ones in a aerosol can so that it's a fine mist getting into the cylinders.

                    Re: Sea Foam Decarb??

If you use a small vac line, or keep it kinked to regulate the flow and keep it down, it should be fine. I've done it many times, but I did it with GM Top Engine cleaner.

I use some sea foam stuff in an aerosol can clean out the ports and intake manifold every so often.

Use that vac line that's right behind the TB. Have someone hold RPMs at 3k and keep spraying slowly without having the car stall on you. When half the can is gone, turn the car off and let it sit overnight. Repeat the same next day for the remaining half can. Let idle for a while. Then take the car out for a spin going through the whole RPM band. Come back and replace oil and filter.

Thanks my man! But one thing I dont understand is why shouldnt I change the oil as well? I mean if this stuff is bad enough to harm the filter its prolly bad enough to hose my oil too right? And go figure I just did an oil change like 400 miles ago looks like Im gonna have to wait to decarb unfortunately. Maybe I will get some hotter plugs and boost the shiznit out of my car for a week. That otta get rid of some of the carbon heh.

anyone ever use seafoam to clean the engine

i was at the auto parts store.. they had this can called Sea Foam. It said to hook up one side to your pcv hose and suck it through it at idle. suppposed to clean out the engine and clear any carbon dispoists.
