  • What exactly IS appropriate work attire?

I got up this morning and got dressed for work (like normal). I have a new shirt I bought and its kind of sheer. Not completely see through, but you can see a silhouette. Since I knew it was vaguely see-through I wore a tank-bra (basically a tank-top) and checked myself in my mirror and it looked fine. I got to work, however, and in the lights here you can see the white fairly easily. Still not see through by any means, since the pattern is fairly wild you don't really notice it. But I notice it, and while I'm not ashamed or embarassed or anything, I still wonder if technically this is appropriate. Its a nice shirt, expensive and is a fairly conservative style, excepting the kind of wild pattern.

My office has a casual-office dress. I usually wear slacks and a nice shirt or a long skirt. Is this bad? Its not trashy looking, and with the tank underneath it doesn't even look like underwear. Why am I obsessing over this? My bosses have never complained about anything I've worn, but maybe they're afraid of saying something. (Its difficult to say stuff like that nowadays).

Maybe I just don't have enough to do here today.

It's rather difficult to offer a valid opinion on this subject without some pics

It really all depends on your supervisor and place of work. Only you are going to know if its appropriate or not.

Maybe the bosses just like it, so they never complain about it... =) I'm sure it doesn't really matter... It's not see thru, so... don't worry about it... If someone comments on it, then change that... Or maybe just find a different undershirt for it... Who knows

Yea, how bout some of those pics?!

What you're wearing sounds fine to me but some people seem to enjoy getting bugged out over the tiniest things.

I work in a rehab hospital with a pretty relaxed dress code for the simple reason we don't want our patients to feel like they're in a hospital. Most have already spent months in other hospitals before coming to ours. In the prosthetics department we have a woman who is, well, stunning. Absolutely, mind numbingly stunning. All men are putty in her presence.
I'm sorry but I feel compelled to describe her.
Tall, around 5'10", long legs, perfect figure, slender, curvaceous, nothing too big or small. A dazzling West Asian beauty with long curly black hair, blue/grey eyes, cocoa complexion, a pert little WASPish nose and perfect facial bone structure, full perfect lips, perfect teeth. Super friendly, nice etc.
Obviously ALL the men love her and are powerless in her presence.
Obviously ALL the women hate her.
She wears some pretty casual and moderately sexy outfits to work but no one said a word until the day she came in wearing a baby-t cut off to a halter just a wee bit lower than the bottom of her breasts and the tightest pair of faded old blue jeans I've seen in a while. She was sent home to change into more appropriate clothing.

            Huzzah!

              No camera

Think of it as very dark tint. Which you can vaguely make out a person behind.

I am lucky...I can wear jeans to work. However since most of my jeans are hip huggers and are pretty low cut sometimes I have to watch what shirt I wear or you can see my tummy. I hated having to dress up for work.

If you work at KFC you get to wear a uniform...then you don't need to worry about it. But then again, you'd have to work at KFC....which isn't fun. Gotta love 1 month summer jobs!

If you are concerned about it attracting attention it probably means some guys would drool over it.

I don't mind dressing up. Sometimes I feel like I'm running out of ideas on what to wear (yes, the world would come to a complete stop if I wore the same outfit twice in two weeks) but I still don't mind looking nice. Before this job I delivered for Steak Out, and wore shorts and a red and yellow shirt. That had steak sauce stains on it. I was happy to trade that in for skirts.

But.. my day is over, and noone said anything about my shirt, so I guess its cool. Maybe I'll get a tan tank-bra to wear under it instead of white though.
