well, that was the purpose for me opening the forum up earlier than usual.

the plan was to conduct it in council bluffs, ia again, because mid-america motorplex was a fantastic place to visit and aaron was very accomodating, along with having a top notch facility.

the date i'm looking at is going to be ~may 15/16, 2004. of course, this is all dependant upon the availability of the facility for that date.

the reason why i opened this forum was to get a feeler on who would actually SHOW UP for this event. we had an awful lot of people saying they would show, others who would show and run the track, and others who thought it clashed with other events (re: HH, mopoc meet). having the actual racing on a monday didn't help either, but it was the best alternative we had.

i want to know who would come to this event, so that we can begin the planning stages now; so that we also know whether or not to have the event at all.

stacey and i did not relish the fact that we had to part with significant personal funds for this event, due to the lack of participation, and we cannot afford this to happen again.

so, with that said, please use this topic to convey your thoughts and feelings regarding this event and whether or not you would like to participate.

I would love to participate in this. My Talon will be "finished" way before this event takes place so that wont be an issue at all.

I can't 100% commit just yet though until I know a good ballpark price for the use of the track. However, this is so far in advance that I'm sure it wont be a problem.

it's not so far in advance as you would think stephen.

it is common for track days to be in the neighborhood of $200+, especially one in which there will be long on track sessions throughout the day.

i am aiming for a cost of $100 to $150, with the target being as close to $100 as possible. of course, total track costs will dictate this, and we'd like to produce some t-shirts for the event and have them available for registered participants (possibly included as a part of the cost).

i'm going to sit down and look at the available options this weekend.

All costs aside this is truly a great event Steven.

I would highly reccomed talking to others that have participated in this. I can safely say that everyone that has gone and participated in this had a great time.

I'm definetly going to be going...however I'm not sure if I will be driving or not. Even if I don't end up running at the track, I'd be happy to donate some cash when the time comes

Is this the track racing meet? With turns?

I'd like to go, as long as the drive could be under 10 hours.

and there we have it. at least 3 complaining of the distance and the proximity of dates to AFN.

let's keep in mind that my drive is longer than most and i was there. this meet is also going to be ~3 weeks after FFF (fabulous fords forever, which is the LARGEST ford show on the west coast) and my POC will be participating, with our own class for the first time.

you guys are all eager to drive to myrtle, but not this event. that, more than any other single factor, is what hurts it the most.

racing is not a requirement to coming and having fun. the more people we have our there, the more fun there is to have. this is the misconception that this event has. instead of thinking of reasons why you can't come, let's work on coming up with reason TO come.

and walter, this would not be Middle America Showdown if this were at watkins glen. kinda defeats the purpose of the word Middle.
