  • what rpms do you launch at

today i was practicing launches i normally launch at 2k but after getting beat by a vdub i figure mabey ill try launching higher.. i launched at 4k and felt like as long as i can feather the gas properly i had a much quicker launch... just want to know what everyone else laucnhes at so i can try a few out and find my sweet spot.. 2k worked for a while but im now realizing its a bit to low now that i have fresh rubber on the car

Edit; Also there are alot of issues that relate to how you can launch, suspension, tires, wheel weight,etc...

No need to heat up street tires. But I would stay with 3k. I can launch with my 91probe gt or my 98 jetta vr6 just spins way to much. Even if I just take off I get wheel spin. But if you get the launching down let me know so I can work on mine lol

ill try 3000 to 3500 tomorrow then 4000 definitally got me off the line quicker but as i said i had to pop off the throttle a few times on each of them so it seems like a bit of a gamble to do that every time

when lining up for hillclimbs I launch at about 4000. 4500 if i'm on new rubber.

I let the clutch out and watch the throttle to control wheelspin. By far the fastest way to launch.

the surface I launch on is crap - slightly uphill and concrete.

On the street using 140 tread wear tyres I can just drop the clutch at 4000-4500.

Either way. Launch at 4500 is about where you want to be launching in a car with max torque at 4500... you just have to be able to control the wheelspin.

BTW, if you aren't getting ANY wheelspin, you are launching too low. You want a little bit of wheelspin.

Launching on street tires, you just want a little spin before hand to clean them a bit..heating them up much is not a good thing.

Launching higher might not get you wheelspin, but you might spend so much time feathering the clutch that you are better off launching with less feathering at a lower rpm.

Try 3000 rpm, with a little slipping and go from there.

im on cheap kybs with dropzone springs and escort mounts lol i love my set up for all types of driving ! never had a problem... when launching i never feather the clutch just the throttle to keep the spin under control the 4k lanch didnt wheel spin to bad... think i spun for about 8 feet then hooked really hard

I didn't mean that I only feather the clutch..it is a balance game that you have to play/find. I modulate the throttle and clutch depending on how the car is hooking..doing one or the other doesn't really work that well from my experience.
