okay, so the other day a friend and I were going down 85. being the stupid teenagers we are, we punch it. he's in a '00 Integra, and me in my '96 probe. so i catch'em, you know, probin'. i'm still climbing, and i look down to see that i'm goin' about 108..i watch untill it gets to 110, and my car starts to lurch. it's like it hits to slow down under 110, then it climbs back up and it hits it back down, only when i hit 110. i wasn't red lining. my only guess would be a governor, but i'm not aware of them being on '96 SEs.

Is that speed limiter the same on the mazda 626's? I heard they were alowed to go over 110 or is that not true? If so why not reflash it with the 626 program?Last edited by the_new_kid; March 30, 2006, 07:27 AM.Just another run of the mill probe enthusiast. I own a 93 626 with a thrown rod.

lol, that's why i ask. i'm pretty new when it comes to cars (my first, btw no offense taken.) so how does this Mega Squirt work? what kind of prices are there out there..and where can i get this done?
and yeah, i am kind of afriad of screwing up my engine. if it's not something that i'm absolutely sure about, i don't do it (when it comes to cars, you know.) my freind has a '98 civic. 17" 5 spoke rims, intake, muffler, no cat and some headers. it sounds like shi*. the other day he bought some kind of "chip" off of ebay for like 6 bucks. it hooks right into some wire that goes to your computer. all it looks like one of those little resistor things that you'd use in a small electrical circuit. he now red lines in 3rd gear at 100 mph. i'm like man..you're pretty dumb.
but hey, i still dust'im.Last edited by sm0othcrim1nul; March 30, 2006, 07:54 PM.SN LUCKETT, DECK DEPT., USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6)

they are just resistors that go in your intake air temperature sensor... they are fake as shit. Megasquirt might be the only way to go if you want to get a managment system and remove the limiter. A plug and play system i think is like $700.00, and a system you splice is like $300-$400.00

In all reality, you probably don't even need to worry about removing the governer. You go around hitting 110mph too much & you're gonna be looking at a baaaaad wreck. All it limits is your top speed, so you can still drive as fast as you want with it on (in other words, it doesn't limit acceleration). I would forget the megasquirt until you mod the hell out of your car, especially because it's so pricey. $400 is not worth removing the governer.
Just work on "getting it up" faster and you'll be good lol.
I'll even help you out a little:
Step #1: eBay cold air intake (~$35) - it won't make you faster, but it's the universal first step to modding your car... and it's cheap!

yeah, speaking of which....
i didn't even know that probes came stock with this K&N intake. the guy who owned it before me took of the old tubing and ran drier hose, WHICH he took off, so now i'm kinda stuck with a filter that's not really picking up anything but warm air..which brings me to another question??
would anyone really recommend a cold air intake over just running some simple drier hose? and blackedblaze, this cai (cold air intake, i'm uessing, right?) is the ype that comes off your intake manifold (sorry, not very familiar with cars) and runs piping down about vbelow your radiator?
all my freinds' CAIs air just a little metal piping with a filter on the end. they don't really go anywhere (the cais) accept for out of the side of the intake, unlike most CAIs that i've seen on the internet.
and if i do decide to get a CAI, isn't the type that runs to beneath the car sort of dangerous? couldn't that just suck water inter your engine?
please pardon any lack of knowledge on my part, and thanbks for any help.

in order to suck water into your engine, it would have to be almost completely submerged... I've had mine for almost 3 years now, and have had no problems with it...

that's a cold air intake from eBay... buy that, throw on a K&N Air Filter instead of the cheapie (I used this one until it crapped out, then went K&N), and you are good to go...
