  • Late model KLZE???

I don't know if others have discovered that there are late model KLZEs still coming out of Japan. I purchased one recently for $800 delivered. I haven't given it the full inspection yet -but just from a preliminary inspection -I can see many things about it that are unique.

    Preliminary observations:

    KLG4 style valve covers
KL31 long neck intake (possibly newer casting)
timing belt covers are new style moldings (never seen these before now)
newer KLDE casting heads vs KL31 (good move in my opinion)

I will post pics and info when I do a more thorough inspection later. I will be checking to see if the rear head casting has provisions for cam sensor mount like KLG4. These are not standard KL01 heads -nor KLG4 -nor KL31! They have the same type square top cam caps that the KLG4 and newer KLDE motors have.

Someone may have already made a thread about this and if so -then I am sorry for not searching. I don't have the patience or time to search thoroughly.

I didn't get around to breaking down the pallet last night because for one I have a hand that has gone bad on me and for two -I was plagued with family hardships yesterday. I hope to get it inspected before the end of the weekend.

              You peaked my interest.

When you ordered it, was it advertised/listed as a KLZE?

Yes it was. However -I will not know the extent of the KLZE purebred-edness until I pop the the valve covers to check cam numbers. It is very likely that it at least has the KLZE pistons. If it doesn't have the cams then it would be much the same as a late model curved neck KLZE -but with the long neck manifold. (of which I could re-sell and recoup some of the purchase price)

It did have the 7 place disty and cap -but the cap was broken during delivery. I don't think the cap is covered -but still a very good deal overall from this seller -if bearings are not spun.

What cars would this new engine be coming from if all the Cars equipped with them stopped being sold after 97?
