awesome progress dude, keep it up.

i got rid of the AC on both of my probes, and both times, it was posibly the best mod i done. it opens up everything around the engine. you can swap an alternator in 5 minutes instead of a half hour. you can get to the back of the engine. you can do your accesory belts and a timing belt in about half the time without the AC lines in the way. the 40 pounds of weight doesnt matter, the extra room around the engine is worth it

That legendary thread is well deserved... working on this and stumbling across old friends on here and pictures of my car make me want back in the probe game so bad.... but the mustang needs to be done first... then maybe we can build something crazy

You guys suck - do you know how pressured I've been to get some stuff that makes good photos done on this car so I can update this thread? LOL.

Yesterday was one hell of a day working on the car, I didn't even come home and upload pictures I was so tired. The day previous, and today, were supposed to be "off days", but I ended up working on the third, and biggest harness.

I've eliminated the following circuits that I'll have to rebuild (or that didn't exist in the first place):
            • MSD box
            • boost controller
            • headlights
            • air conditioning
            • radiator fans

For now, I completely removed the A/C wiring and saved the connectors. I've hoped that the way I've done all of this, it should be simple to add circuits in the future.

This is what my stripped down fuse box looks like, and counting...

My livingroom floor (had I taken this picture a half hour before I had cleaned up, it'd be a lot worse)...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3465.jpg

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3464.jpg

These boxes contain all the wiring, relays, and connectors I've REMOVED...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3463.jpg

Figured out what the rear brake issue was, now the wheels spin...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3427.jpg

Put the two HVAC boxes back into the interior, removed the CC, ABS, and airbag modules and a ton of brackets that hold them up. Dash is almost ready to go back in as soon as I find a place to mount that vacuum canister (probably where those modules were)...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3426.jpg

Did a ton of little other crap, but the thing I'm sure everyone's viewing this thread title for...

It's not what you see...it's what you don't see...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3431.jpg

I found these bangin' insulated 3/8" ID clamps at Advance, they came into great use. Took the VSS, backup lamp switch, and park/neutral position switch which normally are part of that rats nest dangling over the transmission mount and put them under the trans. I had to add about 16" of wiring to each of the sensors, but it wasn't that bad, just took a bit of time to think it out and solder everything in. Ahhh, the simple changes...

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3442.jpg

Convoluted tubing supplied by Taylor, looks a lot nicer than that auto parts stuff that fades.

One thing I did notice at home at these pics is I'm going to have to add a connector there in the wheel well on the VSS wiring - the way it's taped in now, you'd either have to remove the pnp switch and the backup lamp switch by taking the sensors completely out or you'd have to undo all the loom to service the vehicle. If I put a connector by the other two, I can just disconnect those three connectors and that single clamp on the body and walla!

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3441.jpg

Just as you take two steps forward though, the VSS bolt decided to seize in the trans case and snap off. And the end cap on the trans decided to start leaking. I'm sure drilling that bolt out will be tons of fun.

Got the Konigs on and cleaned up. So far, no interference with the wiring in the wheel well. It doesn't look the greatest, but once it's out of the engine bay, weatherproof it, keep it serviceable, and I don't care what it looks like.

            http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3460.jpg

Disappointing in only 18x7 with 225s. Meh.

Public thank yous, in no particular order:

            Julia, my wife
            Adam (96PGTZE)
            my dad
            everyone on PT

for all your support. Every time I want to get lazy and take a day off, someone is there to push me on and give me a new idea to get around a problem.

After a trillion and one test fits, I decided how I was going to remove the clutch line, so I removed all that, but that made for a boring picture.

Woke up really early today to drive the wife to work and try and get on a normal schedule again.

Started off simple trying to get my brain going by putting the two crossmembers in, luckily that went without a hitch. Then I mounted the vacuum canister.

After deciding I was going to mount it under the dash on the driver side where the ABS, cruise, and C/C modules were, I decided to use the stock bracket. Just cut a bit off.

                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3466.jpg

Cut away some of the sound deadening, and it fits like it was meant to be there. Extended the vacuum line supply (normally runs through the firewall between the A/C evaporator inlet and outlet). All I need to do now is run the dangling vacuum line out, into the engine compartment, and to the intake manifold.

                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3472.jpg

I had to take out the wiper motor (in the way of where I wanted to drill), so I painted the bracket black and I took the time to relocate the ground wire. The beauty of soldering is that, like in a case here, I accidentally cut the wire too short, you can unsolder it and resolder it.

                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3474.jpg

My brake line brackets came in from Summit, so I got creative with some M6 hardware I had sitting around and did final mounting on the brake lines (the ones that you see in the engine bay at least.

No more bottle jack holding them up under the car!
                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3475.jpg

And then I drilled more holes in my fender wells and ran my new clutch cable. Pretty slick, no?

                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3476.jpg

See how much better the wiper motor looks by running that ground wire underneath it and not visible? (Thanks Adam)

                  THEN
                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_2960.jpg

                  NOW
                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3477.jpg

I also took the time to remove the power seat wiring from under the driver side carpet, that took a bit of time as it goes up through about four feet of harness, but made for boring pictures.

I yanked my parts car fuse box and harness and brought it home to get some bare wire to use for lengthening stuff and chop off more connectors. This one's dirty so I have to do it outside in the fun PA weather, not much better than NJ's 18 degrees this morning. I also need to confirm where two or three wires go since I cut out my factory fuse box. A big mistake, there are many wires colored the same colors...stupid Ford/Mazda.

                  http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...y/IMG_3478.jpg

It is looking more and more like I will not retain the factory fuse box in the fender, I'll just do an aftermarket box. I have about ten circuits in the stock one at this point, it's about five times as big as what I need.
