Probetalk.com tower v.3.0

So, I'm thinking about doing a PT Tower3.

Second iteration was short lived, the plans for it start on post #626 of the link above.

Please do not bump the old post up - any comments can be posted here.


So, submit your designs with the following caveats:
*it has to be buildable - no 4-dimensional space-time curvature stuff.
*has to be visually pleasing
*it has to withstand a 7.5-magnitude quake and 20-foot tsunami wave
*has to be reasonably priced

The plans are to be submitted as follows:

*a 'top view' with dimensions (to scale or not)
*a 'side view' with dimensions (to scale or not)
*if you have the skills, an isometric view


The proposals will be evaluated by 9/30/2011 and a bid winner announced 10/1. Construction shall follow soon thereafter.

Bill, that is gorgeous, but I don't know how i'm going to get the balsa to bend like that, and pre-stressed members are not that glue friendly

Thats an awesome design!

We did alot of model making in first year studio classes and I found balsa is very unhappy when bent lol. But alot of models were made from cardstock/board of some sort (its like a heavier paper, but thinner than cardboard). And that stuff bends nicely, and glues nicely. We did alot of the model in a pure white cardstock. Just a thought

i don't design buildings that can't be built

i couldn't wait
cut straight boards (green) into curved boards (blue)
then overlap two layers like a conventional double top plate and you're golden
and just for scale, those rectangles are 1/8'' x 1/4''


and brad, find some single sided corrugated cardboard
it's great for quick stairs, or sprayed silver it makes good corrugated metal
and foam-core is good for modeling also.
but just the black stuff cuts clean, the white foam tears out
