  • Car cranks but won't start: SOLVED

So when this happened to me one morning first I was mad cuz I had to take our crappy truck to work, but then all day at work I thought about my problem.

First of all, before work I quick did SOME things to see what was wrong. The fuel cut off switch WASN'T tripped, and I also found out I wasn't getting spark.

So that pretty much ruled out bad fuel pump because I would still be getting fuel with no spark. So I thought, either ignition coil or something assosiated, or bad Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Being a 96 I had to take it in to get the codes scanned. And by golly, it was a bad CKP. $70 part ordered intown, and completely installed for less than $150. (I don't have time to shop around, and my parents are paying....hey, i'm not complaining.)

So I get my car back tomorrow evening after only losing it for 3 days, and mostly because it was strike (I work at an outdoor theatre) this week and I was busy from 9AM-10PM all day.

So when this problem happens to you, don't be so quick to decide what YOU think is wrong. Get it tested, and also this is a reletivaly cheap fix on our cars, so be thankful. I know I am.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch--Hopefully you are right and the car starts up. But we don't need a lecture from some smart mouthed kid. Don't be so smug and people might like you better.

Uh, wtf is my problem is that I think the tone of his post was arrogant and a put-down of the people who like to work on their cars. Just" take your car to the Ford experts", all those WHO think they know what's wrong with their cars but actually don't really. The information is good and something to file away in our fix-it memories, but it is good to know that more people have been screwed by Ford than helped. People have run codes and that code has not showed up on a lot of the 'no starts'. So it's good that his particular problem was solved but it won't solve everyone's. Read his last paragraph again.

No shit man, lighten up on the guy, he's just happy that he's getting closer to solving a problem.
As far as getting a car tested, I can relate.
My car was running really poorly once with this weird ignition miss. I went through all the stuff I thought it was, and could not get rid of it. I finally gave up and drove it to a friend's shop and hooked it up to the diagnostic machine. Two cracked spark plugs, and the realization that I am a dumbass!
Now, I just borrow his Auto XRay kit when I'm not sure.

Well Willyg- why didn't you write a smarmy letter to us when you got your car fixed, telling us how smart you were to take it to your friend? Anyway this is lounge material and I'm out of it, but it's good that you provided us with a characteration of yourself.

Denny, there are many decaffeinated brands that taste almost as good as the real thing.
Also, the 5 dollar word you tried to use is "characterization". Spend the extra dollar and buy the whole word next time.

By the way Denny, I think when you said,

"that code has not showed up on a lot of the 'no starts', "

you meant that it has not shown up. Showed is not a word. Unless you live in rural Kentucky.

Well, since we're in english class, WillieG, just remember, "Two cracked spark plugs, and the realiztion that I'm a dumb--" is not a complete sentence. How come you didn't pick that one up, Mr. elitist, Jackson 76?

                            Let me defend myself:

First of all, this was meant completely as informational use. Not to tell people what to do, or tell them what they did was wrong.

My whole point of saying that I took it to have the codes scanned was just pointing out that i had to take it in, since it was a 96 with OBDII, as opposed to checking it myself by jumping the GND and TEN pin as I did with my old 93.

This post was purely for informational use. This was not meant in an arrogant way at all.

I hope you all didn't take it that way. I know somebody did :cough:grin:enny:cough:, I just hope it wasn't all of you. I'm sorry if the tone of my post turned out opposite of how I meant it.
